Disapproved for firearms purchase

Geez, we do have it great in AZ.
There are shall-issue CCW permits, no fee for NICS, and if we have a CCW we don't need to even go through the instant BC. And there is no waiting period.
I've purchased 5 pistols in the last 3 months and the instant check has never taken more than 5 minutes.

Ditto's the above remarks in Idaho. A CCL is your ticket to quick in and out at the gun shop. No instant check nonsense, no fees. Just fill out the yellow form, show your CCL, and say thank you very much.

90% of the reason I live in Idaho is so I can carry a push-button knife, a concealed weapon, and likely never have a need for either! Having moved from Nazifornia in 1994, I sure have never looked back. My range is right out my back door :)

My brother who is a policeman NEVER gets approved first time around. They always delay his purchases. I went in with him once, and he was in uniform, with gun already on his side, and the FBI lady rejected him anyway. Apparently, either his SSN or his name is similar to that of a felon out there, so he gets the run-around every time.
I always get approved quickly. Even when I give them a hard time. I never BUT NEVER give them my SSN. Mustn't be anyone out there with my name robbing banks or anything.

Had to hire an attorney (and a private detective) to clear my last purchase, and I have an FFL.

Apparently, the Federal system is slightly flawed........

During the first 5 years of Brady, I was initially denied purchase every time I bought a pistol. SC had an instant check system in place, and they would always tell the dealer to get my SS# and they would run the check again. They'd call back after 15-20 mins and I'd be good to go. Minor annoyance, but I can live with it.
After NICS started, however, I've been put on 24 hr delay every time I've purchased. I always get approved, but it always takes at least that long, and that does more than annoy me, it PISSES ME OFF BIG TIME!

I'm not kjm's brother but I have the same situation, every single time. Usually I'm approved the next day. The last time it was 4 hours. The first time was the best. Due to some recent event which I don't recall the politicians decided they should assign a lot of cops, on overtime, to a gunshow and I was commander of the detail. It was really unnecessary and made everybody feel they were being watched like convicts. I saw a local dealer had a rifle I'd been looking for and I figured buying it there would help ease the tensions. I gave him my info and told him I'd complete the transaction when I went off duty. The dealer tables quickly went from grumbles to grins as the whispers went around that I'd been denied. It was cleared up in less than an hour but I thought it was funny too and the good mood lasted all day. It's getting old at this point however.

Imagine the situation if Newspapers had to apply with licenses to publish stories and the Federal Government had the right to arbitrarily deny their right. The fact is, there are no "lesser" rights in the constitution. I'd file a lawsuit (cheap in most places) claiming you were denied your rights by the State of Florida. Ask for $100 million or something like that. Heck, I'd be happle with a buck settlement.

Don't know if this helps or not, but find someone through the newspaper, and make a private transfer. And thank the NRA for the problem you're having. Better hurry before the NRA helps make it so private transfers are illegal.

WESHOOT2, since you have an FFL, why are you going thru the NICS check? FFL holders can purchase from anyone without a check, and then can transfer said firearm to personal inventory without any undue paperwork.

In California LEOs and people with CCWs must go through the check and then wait 10 days before you pick up your gun. It always makes me think of the stupidity of these laws when I am purchasing a gun, I must have a check done and wait 10 days when I am standing there with a gun on me.

My sadistic side loves it when NICS is down and People are standing around waiting for it to come up. I walk on through in ten minutes and am out the door.

God Bless Indiana. It may not be Texas but it is cooler here, and we get more rain.

There is something to be said for having a FFL C&R license. I have gone thru a background check only twice in the last 3 years. Once for the license and again for the new 45 I bought. I've purchased in excess of ten handguns with that license. It's the only way to fly!! ;)

How is it that the NRA lets me buy a gun? I thought it was the 2nd Amendment. Or is their interpretation of the 2nd that lets me buy the gun?

In Louisiana I got my CCW 10-98 so there is no background check at all, no call in period. Just give them my card, D.L. and am out in about 5 minutes. I love it. And so do the dealers. :)

Last gun show I was at there was a guy standing in line waiting for the system "to come online" :) and I just walked right up in front of him and got my gun. He was sort of ticked at first then realized what had happened. He then congratulated me on having gotten my CCW at the right time.

O.K. imagine this; You don't have to go through the instant check, but when you find a pistol you like, you have to pay for it, get the receipt and transfer papers, take them down to your friendly county office building (hrs 9 to 5) and give them to the pistol permit department along with a $3 processing fee. In about ten minutes, this government bee types the pistols serial number onto your pistol permit and probably fills out some forms for their "records" and hands you back your pistol permit and a little yellow card (with your pistol make, model and serial number on it). You take this little yellow card back to the gun shop and give it to the clerk who then hands over your new pistol. We in the Peoples republic of New York WISH we had it as easy as most of you guys. Of course I'm not FOR the NICS either!

The first step is registration, the second step is confiscation, the final step is subjugation.

<sarcasm> Boy it's sure is a good thing them FBI boys are keeping these records. I'm sure they'll be used to increase customer satisfaction. <end sarcasm>

Makes me wonder if they are denying on purpose to justify the keeping of the records.

Peace...
Keith
