Did you ever get BS from autoloading pistol owners for owning a revolver?

Dave T,

Joking about it here among forum members, many of whom own both revolvers and semi-autos, is QUITE different than one of us walking up to a stranger at the range and busting his chops about, say, his choice of a "spray and pray" weapon over a precision shot placement weapon.

Good- natured joshing with someone whom you know is a completely different story.

Do I get any BS from the autoloader owners for shooting a wheelgun?

If I do, it's only after everybody finishes looking at me funny for spending so much time shooting my .22 rifles.

Yeah, I catch some crap sometimes... (me and my buddy carry auto's daily, but prefer to shoot revolvers at the range and when hunting...)

like was said, when the targets are retrieved, the BS seems to stop... something about the "one ragged hole" in the middle of the X-ring...

if they DO persist, pointing out that they required 15+ rounds to procure 2 or 3 good shots, where we got 6 good ones out of 6 usually does the trick...

but I AM gonna remember the "what choke you got in that pistol" line! :D

Already experienced some of this from a Glock-aholic stepson-in-law of my brother-in-law (so we're not really related:D).

Me: '...would like a .38 or .357 snubbie wheelgun'

Him: 'Glock 27 is just as small and carries more rounds'

Me: 'wheelguns don't choke on FTFs or hollowpoints'

Him: 'Never had a FTF with my Glocks'

Me: 'If you had to fire through your coat pocket, a semi can't cycle'

Him: 'When would you ever need to fire through your coat pocket?!!'

Me: 'If the BG doesn't give me time to draw clear I'll happily waste a coat to save my skin.'

And so it goes on...

p.s.: I could have brought up the Glock kB! lore, but I didn't want a fight to break out:p

Mike, I agree. The problem I was addressing is the fairly consatant comments about how semi autos will malfunction while revolvers "never" do. My personal experience has been that well designed and maintained semi autos are just as if not more reliable, particularly under prolonged strings of fire. Despite that, I don't come on these boards and tell revolver shooters they are stupid for carrying wheel guns. I teach CCW classes and tell my students the truth about both revolvers and semi autos. I let them pick what they are most comfortable with and then do my best to show them how to train and effectively use their choice.

TFL's own Tamara once posted a commentary about "Tribes" that expressed this better than I am. After 30+ years in this business I just get tired of the "...enough said!", don't confuse me with facts approach I read far too often.

I don't care what you shoot. As long as you are not dissing me for shooting something different from yours.

Especially if you can't shoot yours well.:D

Loud misses don't count!!

The last time I was at the range, I was on a lane next to a couple of folks who were die-hard Glockaholics. They were spraying crap all OVER the place with virtually NOTHING in the 10 ring. I was in my lane practicing Mozambique drills with my 48 year old 5" Pre-27 .357 Smith using full-house loads. WHAM-WHAM...WHAM. WHAM-WHAM...WHAM. After a few cylinder-fulls of this, the guys sticks his head around the baffle and says, "What the HELL are you shooting?!?" I answered him and he just shook his head and went back to spraying crap all over the paper. I went back to shooting, content that my archaic old sixgun could do the job if called upon....with a whole BUNCH more class than any Combat Tupperware will EVER have.

All I ever hear from auto owners is the "clunk" their jaws make dropping when my 4" barrel model 66 punches out a 1" group of five rounds at 50 feet.

Revolver...autopistol...

...a good .45 is a good .45! ;)
