Dems...how do you feel now?

Sorry about your dad.:(
.
If a certain person voted opposite their parties stance what can we infer from that?
That he/she had enough integrity to vote his/her concience and NOT tow the party line.
The reason we have a senate in the first place is because people do not have the time to study and debate each issue.
Actually, it's because we need representation.
People are getting much more informed now as evidenced by what happened.
I don't think the immigration issue is as big a deal to most people as the anti-immigrant zealots would have us believe
Don't kid yourself.
Do yourself a favor....take a look at Sen. Jeff Sessions "20 Loopholes of the Immigration Bill"http://sessions.senate.gov/pressapp/record.cfm?id=275456
Read them and then tell me if you think that bill wasn't a big deal or not, and what the ramifications would've been for America.
Also, when you're done answer this:
Do you agree or not that, AS EVIDENCED BY THE VOTES, the Democrats displayed a far greater disregard for the wishes of the American people than the Republicans did?
Keep in mind that over 80% of Americans, if I'm not mistaken, were against this bill.
The Dems were salivating at the thought of all those new Democrats.
America be damned!
And the Republicans that voted for it are a disgrace also.

No wonder you are avoiding answering my question....I just read your bio:
Card carrying member of ACLU and all around liberal
Breath being saved starting NOW!

No!

The reason we have a Senate, was to provide representation for the States themselves. That was all changed by the 17th amendment, when Senators were voted into office by popular vote. Just one step in the progression to instill a democracy on a republic.

The House of Representatives was the Peoples Voice and the Senate the Voice of the individual States. The Founders had very good reasons for setting up our bicameral legislature in the manner they did.

They had many reasons to set up a bicameral legislature, including the idea that a "higher" house, like the house of lords, would be less reactionary to public opinion and more "statesman" like. It was also a compromise so that larger states, population wise, would not totally overwhelm and dominate federal policy.

Certainly one of the important aspects of a republic over a democracy is that the rights of minorities are less likely to get trampled.

I remember when Harry Truman held up the paper saying Dewey wins. When Truman was asked about the headline he said "I guess they forgot to tell the American people". I think for the first time in a while a similar thing happened with the immigration bill. Talk radio did nothing but maybe amplify our feelings. We sat around and watched illegals demonstrate in our streets desecrating the American flag. We had a President tell us that the only way to secure our borders was to vote for his & Kenndy's flawed bill. People just got fed up...period.
