Dems...how do you feel now?

I am a registered Independent.
As far as I'm concerned....BOTH parties are garbage!
But only 12 Republican senators voted in favor of the immigration bill as opposed to 34 Democrats!
It's quite evident by the votes which party is working against that which is good for our nation.
To all the Democrats on TFL that were strongly opposed to the bill, how do feel about your party now?
Knowing how detrimental this bill would have been had it passed, and seeing how overwhelming the Democratic support was for it, how do you perceive your party at this point?
Are you still proud to have them as your party?
If you are, why?

RIGHT ON!!!!!!

And, I'd like to NAIL the Republicans who voted for it come election time. Get them OUT OF OFFICE.

One could ask how the GOP folks feel that their President supported the bill.

The relevant point is that both parties are crap. For the GOP, you see the point that Pat Buchanan is making - the conflict is between the economic and social conservatives. Bush is the puppet of the former with some lip service to the latter but that is falling apart.

The Dems want the Hispanic vote. However, the Dems who were against it got deluged by their middle of the road, blue collar constitutencies.

Immigration is an interesting issue as it brought out the agendas of both parties that are antithetical to most Americans.

Strategy-wise, democrats are loving guys like you. You and you buds handed over a constituency you easily won in the 2000 election. So several generations of the LARGEST minority group in the country will no longer give your party the time of day. Add them to the black vote and the chances you'll get your way with an immigration bill in the next congress are about as good as Bush winning the Nobel Peace prize.

90% of the people in Congress suck and are despicable Americans.Im just loving yesterdays vote however, those Democrats really made a difference when they took control-------ITS WORSE THAN EVER! :p
The Dems want the Hispanic vote.
Thats all they care about. :barf:

This is precisely the defensive, kneejerk reaction I was expecting!
Can you stop whining and answer the question?
The point of the thread is not to attack Dems.
I'll make it easier for you......
The bill would have had devastating effects on America.
This was a MAJOR piece of legislation which would have negatively impacted America in countless ways.
Dems overwhelmingly supported it.
A small group of Republicans voted for it.
If you're a Democrat and you opposed the bill, how do you reconcile that within yourself?
Is it enough to make you go Independent?
I'm trying to get your responce based your sense of morality and integrity.
Not partisanship.

And, I'd like to NAIL the Republicans who voted for it come election time. Get them OUT OF OFFICE.

Don't worry pal!
They're gonna get theirs!

Morality and integrity don't have anything to do with politics. Just because you believe the bill would have devastated the country doesn't mean it would have devastated the country. Rather than get something done you celebrate doing nothing at all. The next time it comes up for a vote in several years and it passes and it's even worse than it is now, who will you blame then? And how many more illegals will have crossed the border? Sometimes i'ts better to be practical than it is to feel morally superior.

.
And there you have the problem in a nutshell!!
Rather than get something done you celebrate doing nothing at all.
And doing something that's BAD for the country is good how?!?!?
But AGAIN, you choose NOT to answer the question initially posed.
We can only asume from your responces that you remain a staunch Democrat.
Too bad!

Hey, you aren't one of the guys who yelled at everyone that it was a no-brainer we should go stomping into Iraq are ya? Cause that was a really bad idea and it lost them a lot of credibility.

WOW!
I didn't realize what I was dealing with!!
Must've missed his morning medication?????
And you're planet goes by what name?:D

The donkey riders if nothing else are cunning and laid their plan and which ever way the amnesty vote went, there will be a decline in the GOP's strength in numbers.

If I wanted to live in that cesspool, Mexico, I would move there and I don't want their illegal invaders bringing it here as they have done and are doing.
My American Citizen neighbors of Mexican descent feel pretty well the same way, they have survived racism for well over 150 years, not because they are any more or less than the rest of us but because of the butchery and cold blooded slaughter at Goliad and Alamo by Mexicans against Anglo Texians.

which ever way the amnesty vote went, there will be a decline in the GOP's strength in numbers.
That important fact seems to be lost on the GOP. You'd think they'd want to increase their numbers but they always bow to the loud and the rich even if they alienate everyone else. You can almost see them being marginalized by the hour.

What kills me is that polls show that over 80% of all Americans did not like this bill but that didn't stop many senators from voting against the people anyway. Of course, they know what's best for us:rolleyes:. Americans made so many calls to the Senate yesterday to voice their disapproval of the bill that the phone lines couldn't handle all the traffic and broke down. I am hoping beyond hope that in the 2008 elections an informed America will address this by cleaning house(both Republicans and Democrats!). Unfortunately, my support for Bush has taken a major hit due to his support of this ridiculous bill. I'm hoping some conservative will emerge and actually be conservative AFTER he/she is elected. I want someone who will grow some balls and stand up to Kennedy, HRC, Schumer, etc., and not compromise an agenda away. So called "conservatives" had a chance to pin the liberals' ears back since '94 but failed too many times...miserably.

How should the Republicans feel that 34 Senators had to bolt from the party leader and party line in voting this legislation down?

Not 1 of em' answered. PFT

Always the same...."Oh yeah...well....BUSH SUX...and IRAQ ....What about IRAQ huh....The REAL point isn't our genuine adgenda ...it's....it's well......BUSH SUX....IRAQ>>>>IRAQ.....So what about that....your just stupid......You can't see the real issue......."

There's thier answer card.

Some news here pard, this bill would not have slowed the tide of illegals
at all simply because those in power and corporate America want slave
labor.............

There was nothing in this bill that would have "improved" this country.....

A Quote from DasBoot from a thread he started....

What's wrong with this?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is this not a viable plan:
a) Build the fence.
b) Enforce current laws surrounding employment.
c) Empower LEOs at the city/state levels to detain anyone caught without proper identification during the course of their daily duties.
d) Cease all social handouts to NON-citizens.
A bit more streamlined than the 800 or so pages the Senate was considerin.

But first and foremost.......SECURE THE BORDER! BUILD THE FENCE!

Says it all..........here's that thread http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=252916

An opinion shared by the right wing in general and Fox news in particular. That this is stated as obvious is a good indication that the opinion is based on information gained from very carefully selected news sources. I could just as easily offer the exact opposite opinion and then flame anyone who disagrees with me as a fool.

This is a multifaceted complex issue with pros and cons on all sorts of minor and major sub issues, to offer knee jerk reactionary comments is to prove the superficiality of your own thinking.

I don't know the answer to the immigration issue, I say "issue" because I haven't even decided if it's a "problem" yet. But then I tend to be conservative, as in not reactionary.
