CZ owners/experts - help me find my next pistol

I would call stuart @CZcustom shop to discuss what model fits your needs or callCZ customer service--they are great

I love all of my CZs. I have several productions models( 75 bd, P 01, 85...) and a few of their custom models( really really love them the most) They were great in helping me and on delivery:D

good luck

Limnophile - Why would you want to use 75 mags in a P-07 if you don't own a 75?

Good question. Not sure if they're cheaper, but my understanding is that they're more commonly available should I go with the P-01

Keep us up-to-date. I love shopping for a new pistol:).

The other nice thing about the aluminum alloy P-01 is that even though it's metal, it's light weight. It only weighs 2 oz more fully loaded than a similar sized polymer. The compact you held (unless it was a PCR) was all steel, so they're a little different.

Doubt I'll find a P01 Omega in a store in the near future, especially since it's a new release. Most stores in my state (CT) don't carry but 3-4 CZs at anytime plus I've got the good old (sarcasm) 10 round mag restriction.
Hate to buy a new model sight unseen (and unfondled ). I may have to be patient.

Because the P-07 mags are pricey, and standard CZ mags (even Mec-Gars) aren't. For range use, the standard mags work fine.

I've found (thanks to feedback on this forum) that Canik Stingray mags work well. (The same mags can also be used in the Sphinx SDP if you trim some of the plastic off the top of the base plate -- there's enough extra material that there's no danger of messing up the baseplate.) One less round than the P-07 mags. I think newer ones from CZ may be 15 rounders too. (Seems like I heard of a mag change.)

I got my Canik Stingray mags from J&G Sales. The stock mags are $40+ and shipping.

I own five CZs, and love them, but if you want full ambi controls... I'd suggest giving the FNX-9c a try. The ergos are quite good, particularly if you like CZs. It's DA/SA with a combination decocker/safety (push up to lock it in safe, middle to fire, down to decock).

It was my runner-up back when I was deciding on my first handgun.

Crap. That was a typo, and now it's too late to fix.

I suspect IG might've meant the new (FNH) FNS-9c, which is fully ambidextrous, and not a HP or HP-like semi-auto. The controls are ambidextrous: slide release, mag releases, and if you have a safety-equipped model, safety.

I have two FNS-40s, and they're basically the full-size version of the same gun but in .4o They can all come from the factory with or without safeties.

Sort of. The OP specified a DA/SA with decocker, and so the FNX qualifies but the FNS doesn't. I was just typing one thing while my brain was thinking of something else. I'll stand by the recommendation, though - the ergos are quite nice, and has fully ambi controls without being obtrusive.

The downside as a carry gun is that it's basically a semi-compact, with a mid-sized slide and full-sized grip. I never understood that setup for concealed carry, as it's the grip that prints most; it always made more sense to me to have a midsized grip for concealment and full-length slide for the added site radius.

ETA: Two of them? Walt, are you going guns akimbo? Is that what the ambi controls are for?

Not DA/SA -- you're right. I over-loooked that. The FNX is DA/SA. The FNS is modified DA, like a Glock or Third Gen S&W, and many of the striker-fired guns. (Not a true DA, as the slide must be moved a distance to partially load the striker spring before the trigger will do anything.)

I traded for them with a local shooter. I had a Glock 35 and an M&P Pro -- both obtained in trades, and both with many, many upgrades. I just couldn't shoot them well -- but others could. I picked up an FNS-40 and an FNS-40L (long slide), and they shoot better in my hands than any .40 I've owned (except, perhaps for an early CZ-40B which I foolishly sold before I had come to terms with the .40 round.). The long slide .40 has had trigger work and it's particularly nice. As soon as I can find a conversion barrel for the FNS-40, it'll be converted to 9mm.

(Truthfully, it's all I can do to handle one, and I would never try two... Hopefully I'll never need to use one, and if I ever get in a situation where I need two, two is probably not enough.)

The FNX and NFS can use the same barrel for a given caliber.

I'm wandering a bit off-topic, but are there any differences between the long slide and standard models besides the slide/barrel length? I've been considering the LS model for a range gun, but am not sure if it's worth the extra $100+.

You can get CZ Custom to change the decocker to right side for left hand shooters. What's the cost not sure, but it is not a big job.

As to getting a CZ 75 P-01 Omega they can be ordered directly from CZ Custom and shipped to your FFL dealer for you. How long the wait will be from CZ I do not know, but it may be the only way you will be able to find one.

Give them a call, you have nothing to lose except some time on the phone. They are great people to deal with.

As to magazines, the PCR, P-01 and Compact use the compact mags (14 Rounds) the P-07, CZ 75, SP-01 use the full size mags. They can be ordered from MecGar as well since MecGar makes the factory mags for CZ. I have 4 - 2 factory and 2 MecGar and can not tell which one is in the gun without looking.

Good luck and stay safe.
Jim

My favorite.

Barrel length seems to be the only difference.

P-07 and 75 Compact mags are the same price at CZ-USA. I believe the price break on the P-07 relative to the P-01 is more than enough to but at least two P-07 mags.

Yes, but you can find the Mec Gar CZ 75 magazines (which are arguably of the same quality) for around $20-$25 online at certain vendors. There isn't a similar option for the P-07.

Since Mec-Gar makes most of CZ's mags, it makes sense to go the Mec-Gar route, which you can do with most CZ models.

As I noted earlier, however, the Canik Stingray mags are 100% compatible with the P-07, fit right (the standard mags for the P-01 are [or were] loose in the grip of the P-07), and the Canik mags and available at nearly half the CZ price. I don't know of any mags except CZ Factory mags for the P-09 model, however... Buying new pre-b mags from CZ-USA make sense, as finding used pre-B mags can be a problem.
