The more I hear, and the more I think about this...the more fired up I get! It seems to me that each individual state's fee structure (and in Connecticut, what exactly these fees are covering is very ambiguous) is set up to support that particular state's stance on gun control.
CT = Conservative = $High Fees$ = Less people able to afford to own a gun (legally)!
Somebody mentioned Brady earlier in this thread. Since I am new to the world of guns, I am not familiar with the way things were Pre-1981. Before Brady's gun control crusade, were things really that different/easier/cheaper? Honestly, what is bothering me more than anything is that this is boiling down to money. A few ppl here have picked up on this. If it is our born right as Americans to carry/own a gun, then shouldn't it be a right that is attainable for EVERYONE?? I dont know about you guys...but a couple yrs ago when i was unemployed, i wouldn't have been able to afford $500 just to obtain a permit so that I could buy a gun! As it stands now, I see what boils down to a socio-economic segregation, which in actuality, has no bearing on controlling arms and keeping guns out of the hands of the Hinckley-crazies out there. And this segregation is more obvious in some states. I mean...why not charge us to vote, Mr. Government?? Ya' know....administrative processing fees.
If politicians and voters want to control guns...then require your waiting period, do your background checks, ask for your character reference letters (oh yah...in Connecticut we have to provide 3 reference letters with our application!). But the minute the fees become as steep as they are, and as varied as they are between the states, the whole thing becomes very fishy to me!
