Here's a simple post to kick around if anyone wants to answer it. The anti's of the world would like to make people think that everyone who carries a concealed weapon is just a timebomb just waiting to go off. They also believe that we're all a bunch of crazied, gun-ho, police want-a-be's just looking to shoot someone. So the question is what do you do for a living? I'll start, I'm a former Network Technician who is now the Contact Center Supervisor for a broadband company in Texas. I'm kind of curious to see the different backgrounds of c.c. holders. In the end I think we'll see that we're all just normal everyday people.

I can report I know about 12 college professors with CHLs. From our population,
we have a percentage equal to or higher the
overall TX numbers. This is to the ravers always denouncing college professors - ha ha.

I know slews of computer techy types with permits also.

I know at least 2 MDs with chls.

By the way - this issue has been studied.
The CHL types are usually very upstanding citizens.

Let's see.......

I own a logging business. My bride works for an electric utility. My sister and her husband make oak famed mirrors. My dad was a doctor. My buddy is a manufacturer's sales rep and his wife is an office worker. My neighbor and his wife are retired county workers. One of my customers is a forester aand his wife is a homebody. There's the guy that has the welding shop that does my repairs and his wife. The woman that babysits our son and her husband. I know that there are more....

All in all, a pretty well armed group. And they call me the designated shooter. :D

I prefer armed combat to unarmed combat. It's easier on the knuckles.

Retired U. S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant. :D So, yes, I fit that discription. :p

I'm a housewife and homeschooler. My husband is a maintainence mechanic for the main building at the local power company. My brother is a computer consultant. My son-in-law is a machinist. (We are well protected at holiday gatherings!) The guy whose son I used to babysit is a pipefitter. He was upset when I couldn't watch his son anymore, said he knew he'd never find another sitter that 'packed'.

I'm a retired LEO and now a CCW instructor for the state of Arizona. I've certified over 600 people since August of 1994. They have covered the field of professions from doctors, lawyers & college professors on one end to truck drivers, laborers and house wives (unemployed but probably works harder than the rest) on the other extreme.

I'm a college student finishing up my BS in Industrial Technology. Soon I will start my graduate program, in preparation for my Doctor's degree. When I get all that done, I intend to be a college instructor.

Engineering manager for a bunch of WAN engineers - the kind of guys that do all the plumbing to make the Internet and private networks "go". Master of Science in Engineering. I would descibe myself as very stable and level-headed, far from "a timebomb just waiting to go off." And my knuckles don't drag the floor ;).

While I am very level-headed, the total lack of logic used by the typical gun-grabber does raise my BP a few points.

For income, I teach classes in First Aid, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogen Training,
and (blush) Defensive Driving.

I’m also a CHL Instructor, although I have not taught since my mentor,
partner, “employer”, and best friend died in Feb. 1999. Some of you may
remember Ranger. Ten days before he died, he and Baddog explained how
an ejected casing set off live rounds at the range.
See General Discussion Archives: http://www.thefiringline.com/NonCGI/Forum24/HTML/000185.html

All too rarely (now) I have a class on handgun retention which I will teach
only to LEOs. I’m not trying to contradict or replace their previous training,
just adding a new twist taught to me by a former instructor of the (British)
SAS.

Also, rarely (now) I teach basic firearms safety and use to newcomers. There
are few things in life I like as much as showing women they are not “things”
to be used and abused. Watching a timid, abused woman become calm,
confident, and capable of defending herself is my single greatest thrill and
reward (outside of my family).
-----

Frequently I am asked how I reconcile being an EMT *and* a CHL Instructor.
From the foregoing, you can see my answer is inevitable:

I’m in the business of saving lives.

I'm a Community Development Analyst, which means I "redistribute" your Federal tax dollars. I have a state CHL, and the municipality I work for says I can't carry to my office, downtown, across the street from a parole center/methadone clinic. As a "salaried" professional, I'm often expected to stay late. How's that for irony?

Shameless huckstering: I'm also looking to transition into IT, so if any techies out there have advice, I'd love to hear from you.

I am a high school English teacher, and I instruct tae kwon do (with a sprinkling of boxing, hapkido, and jui-jutsu) at a rec center.

My best friend holds a CCL but no gun yet (giving him my FMJ .45/.410 for his birthday). He works for the GA DOT.

Another friend of mine sells Rainbows (you know, the vacuum cleaners) and heads the music ministry at a local Baptist church.

My instructor, my mentor, and my colleague holds a CCL. He teaches history.

My shooting buddy and morning parking lot duty partner (gotta keep students from stealing the flag pole) teaches biology and runs his own gun shop on the side.

All in all, a pack that tries to keep the world safe from bureaucracy.

Molecular Biologist

I know several other biologists and chemists with concealed weapons permits.

Of couse I was once a CDAT.
