Concealed carry 38 snub - Old school or new school?

I actually went in the opposite direction and replaced a S&W air-weight (BG38) with a blued steel Taurus 85.

That would be the plastic Bodyguard, right? I can't say I've heard all that much enthusiasm for that model.

I will probably get the hammer bobbed in the near future.

I sometimes see spurless Taurus small frame hammers on Ebay. I'm tempted to go that route, for my 605.

I took a little bit of a different path. I went with the S&W Model 640-1, which is the steel version of the 442. As I don't pocket carry the extra weight is a non issue for me. Also the 640-1 is chambered for .357 Magnum ammo. Now shooting .357 Magnum ammo in a 640 is NO fun, but this way I can load and safely shoot and 38 special ammo I can get my hands on.

I have a bobbed 37 as a Safe Queen. I carry a 442 in my pocket and either a SP101 or a LCR357 AIWB every day. Can't beat a 442 in the pocket and a New York Reload in the waist. I also carry Speed Loaders.

I pocket-carry an M49 (a REAL Bodyguard  !) The only change I'd consider would be to a stainless, for rust control during sweaty summers.

I know it's not as important as function and every ounce counts sometimes but at night a pistol sits next to me or on my lap while reading or watching TV so my handguns I think should look good, as nice as the new Ruger snubbies are, there ugly as sin. But I'd still be tempted to carry one for self defense, if you had to use it, it might be a long time if ever you get it back I'm told.

Of the options listed, the Smith 442. The frame size is similar to your 85, for pocket carry it can't be beat.

because my pockets are deep enough on most of my pants/shorts I pocket carry a Seecamp. however, in the winter when I can coat pocket carry, I've used my 642. This winter it might be my LCR after I fired the crap out of it in an abusive type way.

I EDC a 357 LCR. It rides in my pocket all day everyday. I usually forget its there because of how light it is. Order the "bootstrap" grip and it becomes invisible in the pocket. I carry it with 357 hollow points for defense but practice with .38 ammo.

For me, its the ultimate carry gun.

I tried to bring myself to buy a Ruger LCR. I really did. I looked at it. I handled it. I tried the trigger. I really wanted to like it. There was a time when I really liked Ruger revolvers

In the end, like all Ruger revolvers, since the "six" series, it was just to blinking ugly to buy. It might be good, but it's ugly. And that matters to me. I look at my guns a lot more than I do anything else with them.

I bought a 642-2 to carry.

But I might have thought really hard about that Colt. Not to carry, but just to have.

Conceal Carry must be compact, and should deliver quickly without bogging down the carry weight. It should have a hammer for quick ready so that the trigger pull does not though off the aim.

The smallest and most powerful I've found is the Charter Arms Bulldog Pug in .44 Special. Has great grips for the recoil. Mine is blued, but they also come in stainless steal. Google it and see the compactness...

Yeah, if you want to be a pretty boy, you can have the 642, but if you want to be a bada$$, you have to have the LCR. (just messing with you CajunBass :p )

The day I bought my .38spl concealed carry revolver I had a Ruger LCR and a stainless steel J frame Smith and Wesson in front of me on the counter at Cabela's. They were both about the same price with the LCR coming with a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster thrown in for free. The free holster didn't figure into my decision. What sold me on the Ruger LCR was the trigger pull which was really much better than the Smith. I came into this being a Smith and Wesson guy, I really wanted to buy a Smith and Wesson J frame that day but I was swayed by the superior trigger on the Ruger.

Usually pocket carry this on days when I know there will be lots of hugging & my Glock 19 in an IWB holster will be out of place.
