Would you give the cops your guns under N.O.'s circumstances?

Ok guys, we have all seen what is happening in New Orleans.

The news says the cops are asking private citizens to give them guns.

Would you give the cops YOUR guns (and hope one day you get them back in reasonable condition) if something like that was going on?
 
Yes... not all my guns, of course... but I have many, many guns including a couple that would be helpful to the police in that situation that I could live just fine without.
 
I don't have "extra" guns to be able to give some away, and still be able to
protect my family. But I don't understand why the Police don't have their own guns :confused:
I would supply them with spare ammo though.

That was something else that bothered me, we all know the cops are set up nice. They can use autos and all sorts of really sweet weapons we are prevented from obtaining (ok, we can get them, but we jump through more hoops than an animal at the circus) them.

I'd guess that budget constraints keep them from buying a rifle or shotgun for every officer. Most police departments will never need that kind of firepower, so it's a hard expense to justify.

My personal opinion is that the knowledge that a police officer is sending low-life looting scum to hell with my WASR-10 is worth more than any monetary compensation I'd get for the rifle. Also if I evacuated I wouldn't be able to take it with me, so the alternative is to leave it for the looter scum, which isn't an option in my book.

Are we to believe the cops need to borrow guns? What type of guns are they asking for?

I've seen some wield shotguns against the looters on T.V.; they need more than that?

Seen the SWAT on patrol with AR-15/M-16-type carbines, surely there's more where that came form. :confused:
 
I wouldn't give them my only gun, but If I had extras that they might be able to use then I probably would. I certainly wouldn't give up my only means of protection though.

Why wouldn't the mayor/governor ask the local National Guard Armory folks if they could "borrow" some of the military arms?
 
I suppose that if I were in that situation, and couldn't take them all with me, I would rather the cops get them and use them than leave them for looters.
I would absolutely keep enough guns to arm my capable family memebers though.
 
Heck no.

You'd never see it again, and would probably end-up coming out of it with less than zero. I have never seen any city, state, or federal government do anything right. In the end a bunch of bureaucrats end up screwing things up.
 
I guess id lend em one of my guns, but not all. I want to be able to protect my family. People have been shot and raped in New Orelans in the aftermath of Katrina.
 
Giving guns

I might give them Something. Perhaps a Nagant 7.62 and 50 rounds. I'd probably give then a few boxes of ammo but I'd have to tell them they might be a bit warmer than their standard 357 etc :D .
 
The Federal Government is already actively involved. Let them handle firepower issues. Place the city under marshal law for the duration of the evacuation. A prepared and better armed National Guard can handle policing while the local LE can "serve and protect" by assisting the evacuation and rescue operations. If they really are in need of firearms, the Gov't can supply them.
 
No way. A neighbor perhaps. but not to any people in an official capacity.

Let the gubmint send some down. They send gazillions of dollars of our money overseas and can't pony up to help Louisiana? I don't buy that.
 
Only If I got a reciept from a police dept official......I have a few I would lend em.

I was thinking about that this morning and I'd have to say NO! Especially since, according to the courts, it's not the police's responsiblity to protect us. I guess they could always pry it from my cold dead hand. That's the only way they'd get them.
 
Since the N.O. police are asking for citizens to GIVE them their guns, i voted no.

But any police officer would be welcome to borrow it, if i had a guarantee of repayment at MSRP if it didn't make its way back to me in as pristine condition as i loaned it.
 
I think its a ploy to get guns off the streets

If the police asked for ammunition instead, I might buy into their plea. I might also accept it if there were looking for assault weapons todeal with the armed mob down there. As for sidearms, They had better be holding o to theirs because they sure as heck won't be getting mine.
 
No, because I don't have very many. I only have two guns that would be useful for defense, my service six, and my Mosin-nagant m44. I need them both to protect myself, and my family. They can have the mossberg plinkster, I suppose. :)
