Chris Kyle murdered

I just read about this, Chris Kyle was a great guy. His story is really amazing, all brought to an end by some scumbag. RIP

Everyone, pray for his wife and two Children.

Wow, that is terrible news. I read his book and saw him on TV a few times and he seemed like a decent guy. I kind of worried about our enemies trying to get revenge against some of these guys that have gone public, but man it is hard to believe he was killed by a friend.

“We sleep safely at night because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would harm us.” ― Winston Churchill

I'm at a loss. He seemed like a truly remarkable guy and one to whom we all owe a huge debt. What a tragic and too-soon end for a true hero.

My thoughts and prayers are with his loved one.

RIP Chris. You've made this world a better and safer place. May your legacy and values live on.

Found this:

World News excerpt: "ABC affiliate WFAA-TV in Dallas reported that three sources said Kyle, author of the New York Times bestselling book, "American Sniper," and a neighbor of his were shot while helping a soldier who is recovering from post traumatic stress syndrome at a gun range in Glen Rose." The suspect was driving Kyle's truck when arrested. The suspect's name is Eddie Ray Routh, apparently a vet (marine). The name of the 2nd man murdered has been withheld but was a neighbor of Chris Kyle's and both were trying to help Routh..

Was this the result of PTSD, or just a criminal out to steal a truck? Personally if I were trying to help someone dealing with a mental or emotional disorder I would not take them to a gun range. What a shame that this fine man, and patriot is gone.

Double murder to obtain the truck seems a bit of a reach. Given that Kyle worked with disabled vets, my guess is that the truck was the ride to the range and that after the shooting, the Eddie Ray Routh used it to make his escape.

The second victim was Chad Littlefield. He too should not be overlooked.

This is bizarre...
Witnesses told sheriff's investigators that the gunman opened fire on the two men around 3:30 p.m., then fled in a pickup truck belonging to one of the victims. The sheriff's department didn't get a call until around 6 p.m.

What was going on for 2.5 hours that witnesses to the shooting didn't summon help?

The shooting was a Rough Creek Lodge resort. It is a high dollar resort.

Truly sad. Rest in peace, brother.

Keep in mind that (a) news accounts are often incorrect and (2) the word "witness" may be used in its broadest sense, as one who provides information. The speaker may not have been an eyewitness to the actual shooting. And then see (a) again.

From what I've seen/heard (fox news)he and the other victim were with the shooter at the range as a group, they took the troubled shooter out to help with his coping. Apparently the shooter shot them in their backs.

It is a shame to have a true war hero taken way too early in his life possibly by one he was attempting to help.

It causes me to wonder if PTSD is or will become one of the criteria for a rejection to purchase a gun during a background check. It certainly is a mental issue suffered by many of our veterans. There is probably already a huge data base of those who suffer PTSD in VA Claims and files.

The killer in this case certainly should not of had access to a weapon.

RIP, a true American hero.

Not measured in terms of the enemy lives he took, but American lives saved through his overwatch.

My prayers are with him and his family.

And...depending on the outcome of this....and I'm guarding my words...perhaps the shooter as well.

If it was indeed a case of severe PTSD and the killer lost touch with reality, he will have to deal with what he did for the rest of his life. Who could live with taking the lives of two of your brothers in arms?

Can someone familiar with PTSD explain how this happens? I just don't understand how somebody "snaps" in such a way to shoot two supposed friends in the back? I've known a lot of vets, some who got blown to smaller pieces by IEDs, so who barely survived terrible battles (RVN DMZ hill fights, Cambodia and Laos SOG, across DMZ LRRP raids) and not one of them had anything like violent episodes toward others. Some pretty messed up marriages and such but nothing like physical attacks on anyone let alone friends or friendly acquaintances.

I could see a blow up at a bar or something, but a quiet day on the range with a hero fellow vet? Is this sort of thing not unexpected with PTSD or is PTSD a red herring for criminal intent to murder?

PTSD may have nothing to do with it or may just be a longer term contributing factor. There may have been some sort of conflict, ongoing problems within the group. We don't know. Surprisingly, people turn and kill "friends" and family with some regularity without a lot of true notice that such might happen and do so without a contributing PTSD factor. So may have been in the military, may have been in combat, whilst others have not.

Without knowing the group dynamics and the relationship of the people involved leading up to and at the time of the event, it is hard to know what the cause of the shooting was.

I concur and this is a very plausible explanation for the events of yesterday...but then, it may not be...
