Don't know abut .45LC, but I'd go with .45 Colt ;) . Since I only have single actions it would be loose .45 Colt rounds in the pocket 'if' I carried extra. My CC is actually a .44Spec Bulldog (4 rounds, 1 empty) and no 'extras'. Sometime I'd like to get a .45 Colt CC, but haven't decided on 'what' yet.

If you should decide to shoot a 625 gun with .45 Auto Rim ammo instead of .45 ACP in full moon clips:

The HKS 25M speedloaders fit an N-Frame Smith &Wesson Revolver in .45 Auto Rim (Like an S&W 25 or S&W 625)

(I have an S&W 625. I don't know if I will EVER carry it for defensive purposes, but I just ordered a bunch of accessories so I can use speedloaders and .45 Auto Rim ammo instead of .45 ACP ammo in full moon clips, in case I wanted to do that. For no logical reason . . . )

I had Tex Shoemaker custom make me a double speedloader holder for an N frame revolver suitable for concealment use. Kind of . . .

I guess I'd use my Lew Horten 3 inch barrel .44 Spl. S&W.

Do fine like any other big bore. Just use Buffalo Bore 44 Special Ammo - 200 gr. Hard Cast Wadcutter at 1,000 fps.

If that don't do the trick I doubt anything else will.

I have learned through experience not to depend on possible bullet expansion. Start with something big and if it does expand fine, if it doesn't, well OK, you started with something making a big hole in the first place.

What type of bullets do you recommend?

I'll take a DA .45 ACP revolver thank you.

When I do carry mine, I carry two moon clips in a jacket pocket and a 6-round snap-on belt-loop carrier of .45 Auto Rim cartridges.

I've found that the HKS speedloaders for .45 Auto Rim aren't all that good. The cartridge is too short to reliably align the rounds to the cylinders and get the tips into the chambers. Turn the knob and the whole unit spins unless you press down hard on the loader.

That's okay though. A moon clip is much faster anyhow. I carry two in case one gets damaged and the .45 AR on the belt loops is for last resort or tactical reloading.

For carry ammo, it's mostly .45 Auto Rim 255 grain LSWC. Around the house I'll drop in a moon clip of Federal .45 ACP HST ammo.

Given that you want .45 caliber, I favor .45 Automatic (ACP) for two reasons: First, it is FAR more widely available than .45 Colt (when did you last see .45 Colt on the shelves at Wal-Mart?). Second (applies to me), I reload for .45 Auto.

So, having chosen .45 Auto, I still voted "Other" because there are revolvers that are chambered for .45 Auto directly, without any need for moon clips.

Personally, I would go with a .38 or .357 instead UNLESS you also have a .45 autoloader. For me, the main benefit of owning a .45 revolver would be to consolidate ammo with other firearms. Again, everyone has a different oppinion on calibers, but that would be my major selling point. If I were looking at a little bit larger revolver for carry, I would probably go with a .357 as it gives you something not readily found in semiauto pistols.

vyse.04, if you had the choice between a revolver in a rimmed cartridge in that size, with reloads in a speedloader, or an unrimmed cartridge in that size, with reloads in a full moon clip, which would you choose?

I already have a 45acp so there's little need for a revolver to do the same. Particularly one that holds less and is probably bigger. Nevertheless, cc is all about the holster. The right holster could make feasible what otherwise would not be. Practice a lot drawing it.

I didn't vote, my 45 revo's are SA.

full moon clips

For those carrying a .45 ACP revolver with full moon clips, what kind of carrier do you find works best for the spare ammo?

I have some full moon clip holders that are made of steel and snap over the belt and they work (sort-of) but I'd like to find something that worked better.

I'm familiar with the moon-clip holders that IPSC shooters use, but I'm more interested in something for concealment use (that might also work should I decide to shoot an IDPA match with my revolver)

Your kind...
That Brazilian contract Smith is my favorite wheel gun...Barrel Bobbed to 3.5 inches .. internals all polished and slicked up..true DAO ..has been parkerized .... Had another lined up to be customized but ..missed out....
the frame has some light pitting from the past .not original cylinder...

As for the Taurus great carry gun (for short range ,up and personal self protection ) with proper ammo..

I voted .45 Colt, I love that cartridge and if I could find a reasonably priced 4" S&W model 25 locally I'd jump on if and carry it all the time. The concept of a .45ACP revolver is completely lost on me, I figure if I'm going to shoot .45ACP the it ought to be out of a 1911, .45 Colt is for revolvers.

Well, I've owned both.

I had an S&W M25-2 in .45acp that was cut down to 2 1/2". It was a neat revolver, but IMHO, it had no real advantages over several .45acp semi auto pistols that I own, so I sold it.

That said, I also own a 4" M25-13 in .45LC. That revolver has no equivalent in a semi auto pistol (IMHO) so i still own it.

YMMV.

As far as speedloaders vs moon clips, I'd probably go with a speedloader, as that is what I have the most experience with from my .38.
