Just for gun-- er, I mean fun, a poll:

Let's say you were buying a wheelgun for EDC, and wanted it to be in .45 -- would you prefer a .45LC with speedloaders, a .45ACP with full moon clips, or the dreaded "none of the above?" Why? If "none of the above," then why, and what would you pick instead? (No, a semi-auto is not one of the choices.)

Bonus question: What are the odds we can get through this with no flames or ad hominem attacks? :)

ETA: I'm particularly interested in thoughts about the question of rimmed + speedloaders vs unrimmed + moon clips.

N frame is too big for EDC IMO. Maybe if you could open carry. I'd go with a smaller frame .357/.38. Lots to choose from. Are there any 5 shot .45 ACPs? I know Taurus had a .45 Colt 5 shot snubbie, but it's been discontinued. I don't consider Taurus an option for me personally though.

I chose "other" because my variation wasn't included in the poll: 45 ACP with a moonclip in the gun and two speedloaders loaded with 45 Auto Rim.

I also like the 45 Colt option.

I have a 3" 625 Power Custom Combat. It has also been converted to a Full Length Ejector Rod. I carry it some in a Lobo Model 1 Pancake holster. It is a little heavy, but no real problem to carry.

I also have a 310 Night Guard that I carry all the time. I carry it in a Lobo Enhanced pancake. This is a 2-1/2" Airweight N Frame. I have S&W Rose wood checkered finger groove grips on it. No problem at all to carry and conceal for me. This is a real fighting revolver for concealed carry.

S&W makes a 45acp just like it. The Model 325 Night Guard. Equipped with XS Standard Dot 24/7 Tritium front sight, Cylinder & Slide Extreme Duty rear sight. It comes with Pachmayer compact grips. This is THE concealed carry 45 acp revolver.

More often than not, I carry a 1917 S&W with 3 1/2" barrel. One moon clip in the gun and two moore in my pocket.

Other options I carry from time to time:

Bond Arms with 45ACP barrels in pocket or IWB
Bond Arms with 45LC/.410 barrels in pocket or IWB
3 1/2" SS Birdshead Old Vaquero 45LC in pancake:cool:
7 1/2" SS Old Vaquero 45LC IWB:eek:
7 1/2" Bisley Blackhawk 45LC IWB:eek:

The 7 1/2" 's normally only come out of the house concealed IWB for real thick brush or if there is a good western on at the movie theater:D

Duh, ..... what does EDC mean?

EDC = Every Day Carry, or the gun that you carry every day. Personally, I think a .45 revolver is a little too wide for me. I'll stick with a .45 1911.

How do I get speed loaders or moon-clips to work in my Vaquero?

You don't. The Vaquero is based off the SAA, and neither have a swing out cylinder. You have to manually load and eject each round one at a time using the loading gate.

Other

If I had to have 45 cal revolver it would be 45 Colt. For a carry 45, I would prefer the 45acp in a 1911. However, I voted other because I cannot open carry so I want something smaller. I carry a S&W 642 in 38Sp. I also have for carry a Ruger SP101 (2.25") in 357Mag. The Ruger is a handfull with 357 in it.

I'd go with the double action .45ACP.

I missed a chance at a .45ACP Thunder Ranch edition S&W model 22 last year. I had driven into town without my wallet. I saw that gun but was unable to buy it, what with not having my wallet... I told the clerk I's be back later to get it.

He asked "Do you want me to put it in the back for you?"

I said "No, if someone gets it before me, it'll be my fault for forgetting my wallet. Go ahead and leave it out."

Why did I say that?

As far as EDC goes, I don't think I would or could conceal a big bore revolver. Now it would be perfect for a motel room gun when I am traveling or a woods gun.

I'd probably go with a Mountain Gun in .45 Colt because a) I'm not a small guy and I have little difficulty concealing a 4" N-frame, and b) I like Mountain Guns! :)

I have learned through experience not to depend on possible bullet expansion. Start with something big and if it does expand fine, if it doesn't, well OK, you started with something making a big hole in the first place.

As much as I like the speed of moon clips, I had one get bent in my pocket once, and that makes me feel a little handicapped when I carry them now. I'd like to find a belt mounted carrier that protects them, yet gives fast access for a reload, but haven't yet. I do have both, two .45 Colt revolvers and a S&W 1917 (.45acp) that was cut down. All are great carry guns, as my .45 Colts are 4" Hand Ejector S&W's that are just about as light and compact as the 3 1/4" 1917. All of these early N-frame guns are lighter than even the newer "Mountain Guns", due to trimmer tapered barrels.
