How many of you guys carry a backup weapon when carrying concealed? What do you carry, revolver or pocket pistol? Please disclose what caliber(s) if you wish! THIS THREAD IS FOR CURIOSITY ONLY!!

When you can have a 9mm the size of a Boberg or Rohrbaugh - I don't see an overall advantage of having .380 Auto or smaller caliber weapons for a BUG.

Okay, so here's my point of view...

Possible scenarios for the upcoming winter are telling me to go with a revolver (specifically the Ruger LCR in .357) which will be carried primarily in my coat pocket. My summer carry options are wider, namely the Kahr PM9 or the Ruger LC9 (I've been watching Hickok45's YouTube review video). My other option is to go with an LCP, or the Kahr P380. My backup weapon will be primarily ankle-carried, as I normally wear blue jeans or slacks yearround.
I'm thnking I would be better served with the Kahrs, since they're both striker-fired. What do you guys think?

The only time I carry a 2nd handgun is when I'm carrying something other than my EDC. I wan't something besides a J-frame snub when in the outdoors, but my J-frame is an always/everywhere gun that I never seem to leave behind these days.

If I need "backup", I carry a speedloader. It's not gonna break.

I am entirely convinced that at the speed and ranges an attack would occur there would be no need or time for a BU. I am not an off duty LEO.

I have carried backups before. I rarely do so now. I sometimes don't even carry a second mag or speedloader. Perhaps I'm being cavalier, but as I've concentrated more on empty hand skills (Krav Maga), I've become less consumed by pistols. OTOH, I do carry pepper spray. I'd say the likelihood of needing it are somewhere around 10X the likelihood of needing my pistol. I've chosen the spitfire because hanging from my belt, it doesn't look like mace.

About the only time my 380 comes out of my pocket is when i change pants. When i go out i'll stuff something a little bigger in my waist band.

Where do you draw the line. Is one gun not enough why not carry three guns in case the other too fail and maybe a knife in case the guns dont work.
And on your way in your car tow another one behind it in case the one you are driving it brakes down.
I am beginning to think some across the pond are a bit paranoid.

Thousands of people here have being murdered over the years by terrorist groups so they have real reason to be wary. I haven't heard of anyone carrying too guns. In most cases they never got a chance to use one.

Manta49, I'm sorry if my being able to exercise my freedoms somehow offends you, but I don't appreciate being called paranoid!
Whether or not I choose to carry a backup is MY choice entirely. I was actually trying to give you guys the chance to offer advice, not judgement. I see now how some peoplehere are "armchair psychiatrists" and know all!
GOOD DAY TO ALL OF YOU!

Don't be too offended. On these forums we see folks who carry spare magazines so that they have 40 rnds or so of ammo, back up guns, fighting knives, and take martial arts so that they can do the job if their guns fail.

I often wonder what life is about for some. It seems to be built around self defense, and guns. While one has the right to do and think those things, folks who get carried away do seem strange to me. It is as if they are anxious at home and everywhere they go. Some will not eat out unless they can sit against the wall. Others even have a gun available when they shower.

For some of us, we want to be prepared to some reasonable level, but don't intend to build our lives around the thought that there is an attacker behind every tree or door way.

Carry a BU if it suits you, and you don't mind the extra weight and trouble, but for me one is more than enough.

Exercising some freedoms may be paranoid depending upon how one thinks and acts.

Regards,
Jerry

No back-up gun needed.....For myself - One handgun is enough.
I'm not law enforcement, and I don't imagin myself in a drawn-out shootout war with someone.

I am a firm believer in Avoid and Retreat. The gun is used only if last option in self defence.

Did not mean to offend i was talking in general i did not say you where paranoid just that some on this site seam to be. Its up to the individual to deside how Manny guns he wants to carry, i think ones enough.

I sometimes wonder if there are any Anti-Gun Folk on these topics. Because if there is a way, they will filter their ill-logical, annoying phylosophy around.

No back-ups for me.

Utah issued me a "Concealed Firearm Permit"

One weapon, and only good for a firearm.

Even if they did allow more than one, the pistol I carry now, plus the extra mag the occasionally gets carried (and all the regular junk in my pockets) is plenty for me to pack around all day.

I carry one pistol or revolver which has proven itself to be absolutely reliable.

I own several "backup" guns, .380 and 9mm pistols, but only carry them once or twice a year.
