ccp indiana

We are not sure yet. Been looking for what fits her hand, and I thought we were leaning to the KelTec P3at, but the other day she really liked the Lady Smith revolver when we were looking at a local shop. She didn't like the price on the Smith but I told her that it was probably the better gun. She liked the feel of it better than anything else so far.

Personally I am leaning toward a SA XD 9 subcompact. Pretty hard to find in the local shops, but did find one I can rent at a local range. Going to do that some time before I really make my mind up.

Mine took 4 weeks from start to finish. I switched from a temporary to a lifetime, maybe thats why it was so quick.

Back in the 80’s Indiana did require a reason for carry, I was told at the time by a police officer friend the reason that this question was on the permit was to cover someone wanting a gun carry permit to kill some one.
Some time back in the 70’s when a person applied for a permit, the officer casually asked why, the idiot came out with something like “If my neighbor does this one more time I am going to kill him.”
So the reason was added in case some one wanted one for stupid reasons. Let’s face it there are a lot of dumb people out there that will say things that are hard to believe, and it was said that this was one way to catch those dumb people.
Is this a true story or not,,, I don’t really know but I am sure that at some time in the past decades someone said just that.
When I applied for my first permit I was told to just write down, for personal protection and nothing else.
I will have to add, that even though the person now heading the Brady group of “We hate all guns and people that own them” was the mayor of our fair city, we got rig of the creep and also voted in a Governor that IS a gun person and passed the life time CCW permit.
Life time CCW, proof that Indiana is a good state to live in,,, even though the weather sucks.
I have a friend that put in for his late last year and it took 7 weeks.

Wow reading this thread shocks me that it takes that long in Indiana!

Here in Alabama you hand them your Application and receive it the same day in most cases, often you wait while they run the criminal background check.

Good luck, hope it comes in soon.

got my indiana lifetime in about 3 and half weeks. it was a few months back though. im sure they are swamped with requests right now....

Rogue42, she WANTS a Ladysmith. Excellent choice. Get her what she likes or she won't want to keep it close to her.

another question for Hoosiers: when I get the lifetime permit, is it valid if I were to move out of state?

What happens if I were to establish residency in a different (shall issue) state? What is the legal status of the permit?

Yes she likes the LadySmith best but she really didn't like the idea of spending that much for one (new) haven't seen one used yet. For some reason, not much choice in used firearms.. hmm....

I explained that you do get what you pay for(she knows that), she just doesn't feel that she will be carrying all he time so why spend so much $$. She works for a company that allows no firearms on property even in parking lots.

It took me at least 3 months to get mine . This was before Obama was even running for president. so i don`t realy think that is the problem . I think they are overwhelmed with requests and are short handed in employees . Look at it this way , how many states have a lifetime liscense? Also , this should be a one time ordeal .

I got mine several months ago, I had a 3 week wait. But again I live in a smaller county so not as much volume on the local side of things.

I believe mine took 10 weeks....3 years ago.

I'm gonna upgrade to the lifetime (hopefully!) come mid-summer when I get to my 180-day renewal limit.

PS, to all the Hoosiers on the thread, there's a relatively new Indiana-centric firearms web forum (just over a year old) called Indiana Gun Owners, or INGO for short. www.ingunowners.com is the address. We'd love you have you stop by and check it out. Just don't neglect TFL, too!!

To Paulus:
NO, the Indiana lifetime License To Carry Handgun is for residents only. Indiana does not issue non-resident licenses. They do recognise licenses/permits form all other states but you must have a resident license/permit in your home state. If you are an Indiana resident, you must have a Indiana license to be legal. Out of state licenses, such as Utah, Flordia, etc. are handy when travelling outside of Indiana but you must also have your license/permit form your hame state to be legal.
I strongly suggest you do some research on licensing laws as well as carry laws by going to some official sights and buying official publications. Advise from forums and chat rooms can land you in jail or at least with big legal bills.

Wow reading this thread shocks me that it takes that long in Indiana!

The office that issues the permits went from 50 employees down to 6, which is why it takes a little longer. There is no course we Hoosiers have to complete to get a permit.

I got my lifetime permit 5 weeks to the day that I applied.

The nice thing about the lifetime is, no renewal fees. I hear the state wants to do away with lifetime permits, so get em now, while you can.

There are multiple types of perits, but the most common is personal defense. Make sure that if you have to protect yourself, and have a personal defense permit, the perp is within 21 feet of you, otherwise it's not considered self defense.

In Alabama - did website app, stated to allow a day

Couldn't get it (go physically pick it up) for like 2 weeks, but it was ready in time

They didn't even look at my ID :(

You can call the SP in Indianapolis for an approximation. Contact: Firearms Licensing Section 317-232-8264. My Indiana CCW was right at two months, recently. The renewal (my first renewal) takes as long as the original.

Applied the first week of Dec. 2008, got it the first week of March. Took my wife to apply the middle of Feb. 2009 and they told her 16 weeks.
