ccp indiana

i sent in all the paper work and fingerprinting 5 weeks ago tomorrow. i was told in indiana its 4-6 week wait for it. how long have any of you indiana residents waited out there.

the site says 4-8 weeks. I put in for mine the 1st week of december and still haven't heard anything. You'll get notified via mail whether you get it or not.

It seems that people in many states are waiting about twice as long as the standard answer given by the state.
Maybe you're looking at 8-12. Obama mania has everyone on edge. Our local office told me they are processing 3X as many permits as usual.

I know you're getting itchy (I just waited 5 months for mine) but you ARE still inside their time frame. Don't worry too much yet.

When I got my lifetime carry permit in Indiana back in 2006, I waited about 4 months for the paperwork to be completed. Just settle in and enjoy our "efficient" government.

I live in Indiana and just received my Lifetime LTCH yesterday. (1/26/09) That makes it 12-weeks to the day that I started the process. A good friend at work just received his LTCH on Saturday, which was 10-weeks for him.

10 to 12 weeks seems to be the average right now. If you head over to the Indiana Gun Owners forum you will see that most everyone is in that same time frame. http://ingunowners.com/forums/index.php

In Indiana, the term is LTCH (License To Carry Handgun) and not CCP.

Be patient.

Do you have to have a good reason for carrying there, or is it like FL where if you are not a criminal you can get your CC permit?

So it's a "shall issue" state? On the permit is there a space that you need to explain why you want/need to carry? Or do just fill it out, and if you pass backround and your figerprints your good?

I always find it offensive when I read of folks having to state a reason "why" they are applying for a concealed carry license. It shouldn't be up to some bureaucrat to subjectively decide whether my reason is good enough for him.

Yup, thats Delaware.

Indiana is a "shall isuue" state which means if you have a clean background you cannot be denied. If a State requires a reason to carry they can deny you. Indiana issues a License To Carry a Handgun. They do not specify concealed or open. Open carry is legal but you may attract the attention of some local officer who will try to convince you that it must be concealed. My wife and I both applied at the same time. Hers came back in 3 weeks and mine took 8 weeks. There is no way to estimate how long it will take the State Police to run the background check.

Indianan is a "Shall Issue" state and the only reason you have to give is a check in the box marked "Self Defense". You know... Kind of like the way it was intended in the 2nd Amendment.
