Cartridge Quiz

Ok... three more guesses....

#4: 38 Special Hollywood "muzzle flash" load
#6: 32 Smith and Wesson
#8: 7x57 Mauser

Jimro

There ya go; .32 S&W is what I was looking for.

And Scorch was closest on #4. It's an AMTECH .38 Special case from a factory cast bullet load. Similar construction to the USAC stuff, but not intended to be reloaded.

1. 5.56x45mm/.223 Rem
2. 9x18mm "Makarov"
3. .50 BMG
4. .38 Special, AMTECH
5. 7.62x54R
6. .32 S&W
7. 7.62x25mm Tokarev
8.
9. .50 Beowulf
10. .307 Win
11. .45 GAP
12. 5.7x28mm FN
13. .38 Special
14. 8x57mm
15. .357 Sig
16. .35 Whelen

I think #8 is slightly longer than an x57 cartridge, but I thought it might have been left untrimmed.

Is #8 a 7x60 BSA?

Jimro

#8 Wrong guesses so far: 7.7 Jap, 7.7x58, 30 Rem, 7x57
Still on table are a 8x57, 6mm Lee navy and a 7x60 BSA guesses.

Seems I remember a wildcat 7mm.
That used a necked down reformed 8mm Mauser case.
Hence the shoulder was farther forward than the std 7x57
And thus it had more case capacity than a std 7x57.

So... My #8 guess is a 7/8mm Mauser wildcat
cause I can't remember a specific cartridge name for it.

big al got it.
#8 is just a fired 8x57mm. ;)

Well...That was quick!

Knew the M1-30 carbine would be a slam dunk.
Figured the lower than normal COL on the 9.3 and
the higher than normal COL for the 270W
would make it harder - But it didn't.
