Cars getting broken into at work!!!

I now have a mustang GT 2000 and it's not locked in my car it's in the center console

Go to walmart, buy a 25lb weight and some chain and a gun lock and rap it all around. good luck halling that off.

Leave the sig at home... buy a pocket gun instead... in the right holster they will never know it is on you.

Insurance

Also, make sure your car insurance will pay for stolen property without too much of a deductible.

Items stolen from your car are normally covered by homeowners insurance, not auto insurance.....I know....go figure!

Talk to your agent.

And of course get a car safe.

One more thing -- you state that you should not have guns in your car per company policy (I paraphrase) but that you follow state law. If the parking lot is private property and guns are prohibited (properly posted as such), you may want to read the state law carefully. I am no expert, and you are not likely to be caught, but you may need to park in a public parking spot to be legal.

Dave Chuppa:
[Before] I put a Safe in my car I used a chain and a Master Lock. I put the chain around the seat track or the trunk hinge and locked it through the trigger guard.

This is the best, cheapest and most low-tech solution until you have a proper gun vault welded into the car.

If your car were a beater, you could put a hasp and padlock on the trunk lid; but instead, install the kind of plate around the trunk lock keyway that protects the factory lock from being punched.

Such plates are very common in NYC, and since you're in Miami (which is practically a suburb of NYC!) most locksmiths should carry them; they install with pop rivets or one-way screws.

In addition to armoring your car's locks and locking the gun via a heavy-gauge hardened chain and an armored and pick-resistant padlock (or a "Kryptonite"-type bicycle lock), it's a shame you can't station a sharpshooter on the building's roof!

To those who suggest having a cheaper gun in the car (to merely minimize the cost to you when it is stolen), Shame on you! You are irresponsible and apparently not bothered by being complicit in a felon obtaining a firearm!

Darn...absolutely right about the felon obtaining the firearm. Didn't see it that way fully.

Which is why I need a freaking lock. A seriously welded one too. Sucks that they're breaking windows.

What someone above said about a pocket gun? That's a really good idea. risky though...

I will still remain to carry in my commute to and from work regardless of what I may be told. No one can stop me from that.

Lock box sounds good welded. A mission to get in and out though, not gonna lie. But if it's in a little back pack I should be good to go.

As far as insurance. I'll give them a call tomorrow. For these window breaking freaks...It's sad really...

I still think tomorrow the G27 will join me...even though the SIG is my #1 right now. Still gotta go back to the feeling of "I can't afford to lose any of them that being one of biggest ones I cannot afford to lose" topic.

It's really a shame what all we have to go thru to keep our possessions ours. I have sold quite a few of these so people could secure their handgun in the trunk or hatch of their cars.It is very strong and uses a mechanical pushbutton lock.

This pic is in the boot of a Mini Cooper.

FAS1; thats a nice setup. I'm going to look into that for my pick-up and my wife's SUV. Thanks for posting

Thanks. It is really designed to use for your home defense handgun. Because of it's size, your vehicle will determine where you have enough room to mount it. In a SUV or truck you might have enough room to mount it sideways under a seat.

FAS1 does it bolt into the car? If so, do you take paypal?

You drill the holes where you need them for your application and buy the appropriate hardware locally. I would suggest using locknuts on the inside of the box for a little added security. Yes, I do take PayPal. Search Facebook for us if you use it and the are more pics/info there.

Thanks FAS I'll look into it or attempt to conjure up something in my own time.

Felt weird just now. About to go to work...and I put my SIG in the safe. That feels so weird to do. I have the Glock 27 on my along with a spare Glock 22 mag. I'm locking it in the trunk when I get to work. It's a shame how I have to go out of my way during work to protect what's mine ..

Who wants to run chains thru the trigger guard of a loaded gun, and one they like the finish of?

The case I recommended, while not the highest level of security, also bolts down if you prefer (I'd use four hard-metal bolts, not soft Home-Depot hardware, the heads of which would also be protected inside the case), however, that steel cable is pretty tough too.

my first thought is whether you really need that gun or you are carrying it "just in case."

We should never give in to the idea that we should only carry under situation x or situation y, a right is a right and doesnt require a situation.

I carry everywhere it is legal to do so with no concern for the particular odds of someone attacking me other than trying to stay out of obvious places one will find trouble.

Where do the managers of your work park? Same lot? Have their cars been hit?

Is this a full on public lot with no restricted access ( shopping mall, restaurant ) or a semi public lot like a amusement park where you need to pay to enter the lot?

It seems that if the place where you work is dictating what you can have in your car, they are taking ownership of the lot and may be liable for security.

Has the local PD been called and what do they have to say about the issue? I bet if the local TV news got wind of the break-ins the resulting headlines of " The rash of automotive break-ins at Skate - A - Rama continues unabated. " would get the attention of the owners.

Since the police are under no obligation legally to protect you or your possessions, why would a private employer be?

NO one is forcing him or anyone else to work there

Nice to have someone rooting for the bad guys. Do you strive so hard to be so different? Or do you just like attention? I'm more in the right than the hoodlum thieves. Sad you're siding with them. Rather comment on their behalf than a fellow legal and good gun owner? Good job man.

Yes. They hit a supervisors car. Everyone parks in the same lot. Guests spaces are marked and employee spaces are marked. So their BS of "no guns not even in your car" is just that, BS. I know personally several people that are more vocal in not agreeing with the stupidity in that "policy" July 8th 2008 Florida became a "take your gun to work state" this is NOT a privately owned place. It's a franchise. They're full of it and I and several others probably way more than I even think, people will remain carrying in our commute. Just now with these thieves...things are a little more complicated. They're up for a lawsuit if something happens to someone who did not carry that day because their rules say so. It'll never fly. Not in Miami.

My life > Job

They're obviously boogeymen walking around the lot yeah?

I need a lock box...

PD is on it more than our makeshift wannabe "security" lol

My life > Job

Like I said.... Kahr Arms PM-9..... good leather holster..... looks like a wallet in your back pocket... ditch the actual wallet for a money clip with your ID and a credit card if needed in a different pocket. Don't be vocal about not agreeing with the rules... no one will know the better... don't brag or show off to your co-workers either.:D

Living outside of Philly for 5 years, crime is everywhere and never sleeps. I ditched carrying a wallet in it... and carried my PM-9 in that spot instead. I keep my money minimum and in a discreet place on my body, and normally keep a gun or knife where one would think a wallet would be.

Muggings were common in the area I lived.... so I figured if need be.... when they ask for my wallet.... I am actually reaching for a firearm. I carried like this a lot, and with the leather holsters that keep a flat slab to the front of your pocket .... it prints just like a wallet would.

I don't lol no one knows..only my g/f that works there and a few range buddies that work there. They are vocal with me about it. And I with them :) like I am here with you guys!

I'm thinking about that gun. I saw it in my local shop for 5-600$ ish..

Looks good :)

Not rooting for the bad guys, but merely stating the facts. Like it or not, what he said is true.

State law covers you. If this is the case then what’s your gripe?

You have discussed this with others who work there and seem to infer that they know you have a gun in your car or on you.

HUH????
