Cars getting broken into at work!!!

My gun is in my car. My SIG P226 E2 9mm I LOVE that gun :( we're not supposed to have then in our cars say the "rules" but laws say otherwise so no worries. It's been in my car for 6 months + no issue. I now have a mustang GT 2000 and it's not locked in my car it's in the center console. They've been breaking into cars left and right. It's my first summer at this job and I've never known about it till now...apparently this is bad. If they get my gun I'll lose it.

What should I do right now????

I'm here till midnight tonight and I really don't want this getting stolen and I cannot bring it down either.

Help?????

Yes my car has no alarm.

What should I do in the future??? Carry the Glock 27??? I don't know.

Wisdom!!

For the rest of today, you should go move your car closer to a door and in the light if possible. I obviously don't know your lot setup, but if it's like most others, the day shift will be leaving soon freeing up a safer spot.

How many times has this happened? If it's mostly been recent I'd think the probability is high that it's just one guy coming back. See if you can talk to someone in management, something like this is not just a property issue but an employee safety issue, and they have a responsibility for your safety, especially if they won't allow you the means to protect yourself. If it's a big enough company that could mean a security guard, additional lighting, gated access, etc.

Also, make sure your car insurance will pay for stolen property without too much of a deductible.

Thank you guys very much. I moved the car closer. Hopefully it's safer there...even though I am not supposed to park there. Right now I could care less. Security here is complete garbage and thats their fault.

I will be getting that safe. That's a fact.

It's just such a hassle to go through all this... I need an alarm and a real lock box in the car.

I can't take my gun out now and move it because it's a very busy parking lot around this time till the sun goes down sadly.

This sucks so bad...they broke into my buddies Lexus IS350 yesterday.

Can you check into an aftermarket alarm? Some specials offer a basic alarm for $99 + installation.

Just a thought.

Agreed with you. I will eventually. Things are really tight. Just paid my G21 and have things to pay coming up. I will, get myself any massively loud alarm I can. I also NEED to have some kind of a lock box. It's crazy cause my gun I ALWAYS on me except here. It sits in the car.

Depressing. I'd lose it if my SIG was taken. I don't care about the cars windows lol

Constantine, I feel your pain man. I got a new job a couple months ago, and they can pretty much fire me for anything in the first 90 days, so I haven't chanced taking my gun.

Kills me though, since this is the first job that I haven't been able to be armed at. Guess I was lucky before, even if I was poorer.

After 90 days, might think about carrying to and from, and leaving in car. We will see how it goes.

Hopefully they leave your car alone.

Just one of the many times you will have to give in one way or another. You may not like it, but my first thought is whether you really need that gun or you are carrying it "just in case." Have you been robbed, beaten or threatened in your home neighborhood or in the area where you work or drive to work? Is your home or place of work in a high crime area (other than the car break-ins)? Are people routinely attacked in the parking lot or in the general area?

If the risk really is low, you may be better off without the gun than taking the risk of having it stolen. Then you are really in a bind. Report it and you risk losing the job. Don't report it and have it turn up as a murder weapon and traced right back to you.

Jim

Tough call. Keep car locked, it has a decent factory alarm but any good car burglar can defeat it. Many car burglars are opportunists and only access unlocked cars. I'd bet you can find a few out there right now. If they're breaking into vehicles on a regular basis and security hasn't been able to impact it then you can only assume their focus is elsewhere, likely on company rather than employee property. Sad.

Be for I put a Safe in my car I used a chain and a Master Lock. I put the chain around the seat track or the trunk hinge and locked it through the trigger guard.

Damn buddy, you talked about nothing other than getting that beaut for weeks! I too gotta keep my SIGs in the truck at work, and regardless of the "perceived" threat, I'm carrying everyday.....
So, an alarm is a must, but get the lock box before anything else! If the jerk is good, an alarm is only a momentary deterrent. The safe will buy you A LOT more time!!!

I LOVE that gun, we're not supposed to have then in our cars say the "rules" but laws say otherwise so no worries.

You may want to rethink that if you value your job, and in today’s economy, you better be valuing your job. A former employer of mine set up a new rule, no firearms, ammunition, or knives over 4 inches allowed on company property. This included in your vehicle that is parked on company property. I checked into the legality of it all. Contacted the NRA, and they referred me to a lawyer in my state. It is perfectly legal for a company to ban firearms on their property. Even if it’s in your car while your car is on their property. It’s also perfectly legal for the company to fire you on the spot for breaking this rule. You can do what you feel best, as you have free will and a mind to use it. But I am not about to jeopardize my job, and you probably aren’t either.

Ruger P-95. Perfect handgun when you know it must be left in the car for some jerkoff to steal. I didn't realize I needed one until I saw the $229 price tag and now it's the gun I take when I know I'll have to go somewhere that the handgun must be left in the car.

I'm sure your workplace will have this fixed soon enough.

Lock box is a good idea, bolted down somehow.

Otherwise, maybe put it in with the spare tire in the meantime.

Wow. I did read it all. Every response I got. I thank you all. I'm home now, just got in and thankfully it's fine. I hugged and kissed my SIG like it was the apocalypse.

The job laughed and said "ha ha, I know. Happened last year too" idiots. Some security.

I carry all the time every time. To and from work. No one can stop me. Yes, I have been through personal incidents. Not going to get into the outcome or anything.

I think I may just carry the Glock 27 and put it in a back pack when I get to work, lock it in my trunk. The trunk release button is in the glove box which can be locked so I'll be set. May even do that with the SIG I'm accurate with ALL my guns but more confident with my SIG.

Lock box maybe too?

I don't know. Ugh....sucks.
