Can Leftists be Martialists (Self-Defense Exponents)?

OK I'll take away bigotry and add the terms, unsophisticated, skewed, immature and silly...

Maybe we need to have threads such as:

Can Rightists be Intellectuals
Can Rightists Be Egalitarian
Are all Rightists War Mongers
Is Martialism a Psychological Disturbance characteristic of the Far Radical Right

WildhowsthatAlaska

PS...never mind, no rant yet

Well, it's certainly easier to compose a list of insults than actually to argue your position. One expects as much from leftists.

Perhaps if we study the issues separately, we might find a more balanced view. Labeling people with pejorative terminology stifles communication on all sides of any issue. Leftist? Left of what? the aisle in the congress? I've never even been in the building. Rightist? Liberal? Conservative? Lets talk about issues not labels. Abortion,Homicide or medicine? Gun rights? rather lets talk about the constitution of the United States. Ever read it? from front to back? It is available in paperback for less than $10.00 from Barnes and Noble. I believe that the framers of the constitution were just well meaning men who, in the course of their own struggles, codified the most compelling arguments for freedom of the INDIVIDUAL ever written.
government exists to do things for the people that they cannot do for themselves. International relations, Customs, Borders, etc. It does not exist to control the people, rather it exists to free the people. If being a libertarian means that I want to be free of governmental interference in my life, I am one. At the same time I recognise the need for Law,tradition, social contracts and the need to live in concert with society. Lets stop labeling each other and start realistically examining the issues we must determine.

Having practiced and taught martial arts for over 35 years I would have to say I have run into all types of folks who have all kinds of reasons for practising martial arts. Sometimes the philosophy associated with the art (Aikido for instance) might lend itself to folks of a kinder gentler pursuasion.

Still I agree with Wildalaska that this is just another thread to label folks and has no real meaning.

Labels have meanings. What is any word, really, but a label for a concept? Those who decry labels are usually uncomfortable with those meanings.

The problem is that these labels are not set in stone. There are many interpretations of them and one group's desired definition does not necessarily influence others.

I do not even know where to begin on this topic. The original post is such a deluded piece of slander, misinformation, ignorance, and propaganda that is hard to decide what to say first.

As far as the through processes behind it, they are totally off the wall. There is nothing factual, fair, or thought out about it. A person with a set agenda and an obvious bias sat down and tried to support his own unrealistic beliefs with slanted views, unfair statements, untrue stereotypes, etc.

Whenever I read posts like this it is very hard to not become angry.

Leftism is unpatriotic.

What a lame and overused tactic. Wrap yourself and your bigotry in the flag and then accuse anyone that attacks you of attacking the flag and for what it stands.
So if someone feels that their country should do all it can to do the right thing and try and harm as few as possible doing they are somehow unpatriotic?
I am a person that sits quite a bit to the left on many topics. Are you calling me unpatriotic?
Are you a combat veteran of the armed forces?
Have you stood beside another man and fought for your country?
Have you spilled the blood of another man in defense of your way of life?
Have you seen fist hand the spectacles of war...such as the results of bombs, gun shots, etc.....
or do you just sit on a high horse and throw baseless accusations?

Leftism is contrary to self-defense.

What a load of total garbage. I am a person that believes all men should be considered equal and treated with respect until they do something to lose that respect.
You think you know how people think based on your little propaganda blurbs and what you hear from right wing talking heads?
Have you ever even been in a situation where you life was truly in danger or are you speaking out of your rear again?

I am a peace loving person and treat people with respect but if someone presented a danger to me or someone I care about they would be met with all due force swiftly and mercilessly until the threat was ended.

Leftism is built on theft and immorality

Have you ever been to another country that does not have the benefit of the programs you berated in your original statement?

Have you ever stopped to think that the only reason you are not the property of a large corporation and working hard 16 hour days for very little pay and no hope of ever improving yourself is reliant on a lot of these same programs and "shared wealth" mindsets?

Have you ever considered that a single man is easy prey but 100 men are a powerful entity? That is the philosophy behind programs that allow the whole to care for even it's weakest members are what gives America it's true strength. No man can stand on his own against the threats of the world. Only through collective effort are humans able to thrive and grow.

Have you ever had to do without or be in a position where you had little hope for bettering yourself or do you just like to talk about things you do not understand?

There is really just too much ignorance and posturing here to address in one post.

Phil,

You are correct. Labels have meaning. After looking at your website the labels- bipolar disorder - or -narcissist-leapt into my mind. Not sure why.

David

Your substantive arguments certainly amaze and dismay, difficult as they would be to counter. Were you both on the debate team in High School?

I can't believe I wasted my time reading this crap. :barf:

What is there to debate?

Sharp Phil set forth in his diatribe that leftists should adhere to a position of non-violence in order to remain true to their philosophy, or at least what he considers to be the tenets of leftism.

What is the point? That hypocrisy exists in human endeavors? That leftists should be willing to take a beating that they so righteously deserve?

My hypocrisy is that I don't really care what the point is, if there is one.
