Cable Gun Shows - Which is the worst?

They broke down the pricing on Paige's S&W M&P that she sold in this last episode. Something like $500 for the gun, $100 trigger job and $800 paint job. She sold it for $1500.

Normally, everything they sell on the show is outrageously priced. In this case, it was just the paint job.

As for the kid, holy crap!

Do people REALLY believe the "customers" are real, and not actors acting out a part ? ?

TV = ENTERTAINMENT = FICTION (even in "newscasts" )

It's all about generating income from advertizing sponsors.

Enjoy it, or not - but don't believe it any more than you'd believe in Howdy Doody. ( ho-boy, am I showing my age ! )

.

in my old age of 59 years, having grown up with the boob tube,
i have finally come to the realization that there is NOTHING
on tv that is real

nothing

not even what is called "news"

not even the weather

(dear mister weatherman....just wanted to let you know that i shoveled
6 inches of partly cloudy off my front steps this morning)

Both American Guns and Sons of Guns portray gun owners as explosion-happy, reckless half-wits. The characters come across as cartoonish. I like seeing shows on television that aren't demonizing firearms, but both shows come across like a combination of Green Acres and Dallas. I've taken to watching the river behind my house rather than watching tv. More relaxing, no drama, and I don't feel like throwing coffee mugs at the tv set any more.

The customers are real, sort of. They are garnered via casting calls.

With that said, I don't think any of the pricing is real. I am sure the pricing for the work is determined before the show is recorded and the customers then just go along with whatever is said when it is recorded.

Right, when it comes to the delivery of the product, everything they shoot explodes and the customers are always impressed by the power of the guns, apparently as a result of the explosions.

I can't imagine any gun businesses that have the owner and staff who take or meet the customer at the gun range to demo the new product as it looks like they would be closing their business fairly frequently.

The show, just like nearly everything else on Discovery today, is little more than a scripted drama disguised as a reality show about a gunshop. The customers aren't real, the deals aren't real, and the prices don't even attempt to reflect reality. Sons of Guns is exactly the same way.

In agreement most of so called "reality TV" is a joke aimed at the Jerry Springer crowd.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

I agree with you about 90%

at least american guns has eye candy to deal with and to my knowledge at least he actually has an FFL(redjacket lost their FFL a couple years back and has had to operate under employees and friends FFLs ever since).

other than that yes....same crap, different wrapper.

If you google the dad it shows he went thru a nasty divorce in 2002 so I don't think the kids on the show are his but its pretty obvious the mother and daughter are related. I do enjoy seeing the guns but the rest of the show is a bunch of hooey.

Triggers host is not an ex-seal.
He claims to have been a Ranger and an AF Parajumper.
The number of mistakes he makes regarding weapons makes me doubt he was ever in any branch of the military.

Lock'n'Load and Tales of the Gun are both programmed into my 'record' on my DVR. American Guns and Son's of Guns used to be but I deleted them. Who flys around in a helicopter to buy guns? I used to but my blue spruces got too big and were clipping the helo blades.

Cable shows

Watching American guns now this guy robs people on the pricing
18000 for a rifle the gator gun and s@w gov 25000 do these
People feel something hit them in the back of head when they

Know I'm bringing this back from the dead (almost started a new thread before searching).

I read a few of the responses, and I know these shows are scripted and people spend way more than anything is worth but am I the only one who really enjoys these shows?

As plastic as the shows may be, all the gun work seems real. And for someone like myself who is not only new to guns/shooting, but otherwise has no insight on the world of gun building, both American Guns, and Sons of Guns are pretty fascinating (at least if you can get past the characters, some of whom I enjoy watching). I mean they built a double barrel cannon last episode! How cool is that? And you got to see the CNC machine work.

And really, who doesn't like to watch Paige from American Guns? :P

I think we've said that when you discuss the women, the thread is over.

Also, staff has discussed this and some of the new 'gun reality' shows that just started.

We will shut conversations about these shows down with the reason that they are NOT in the least realistic and they do not portray gun owners in anything even remotely resembling a positive light.

Feel free to discuss the gun shows that have technical content, show techniques, gun history, etc.

But the reality shows aren't worth it.

Closed.
