Cable Gun Shows - Which is the worst?

Isn't this the age old "Corvette v. Camaro" question? I can pay less money for a Camaro ZL1 which will perform just as well as the Corvette, if not better. Slap the "Corvette" name on it and folks will pay tens of thousands of dollars more for it.

There really isn't a hill of beans difference between most 1000+ 1911's; far more similarities than differences

its is the camaro vs corvette argument but it would be a better argument to say its the z06 vs ron fellow edition.

if you dont know the ron fellows is a # to 300 production of a z06 that costs 20k more for no difference in performance. it does come with the dash signed in silver sharpie though.

and if you do not own a $1000,$2500, $3000+ 1911 you have no idea what your actually comparing.

i do own alot of high end 1911's and where the difference comes in mainly is materials, quality of parts and fit and finish.

granted you could take a cheap papa 1911 and stack all the same parts on it but it will not shoot anywhere near as good as a higher end 1911. is a price tag the final judge of performance. no personally any 1911 purchase in these categories should be researched for the features you want to have on the gun. and there are some joke models made even in these for example anything from kimber.

yeah but if you put diamonds on the 1911 it shoots better :)

I don't believe he didnt know you couldnt set diamond into the slide itself. Recoil anyone?

I believe any of us could see those shows are complete crap but I was recently flaberghasted by something viewed on the National Graphic Channel. "Doomsday Preppers" A father had his two very young sons out shooting for training for scenarios and ends up blowing off the tip of his thumb after a misfire. He said something along the lines of "It was one of those malfunctions that caused the need to put my hand in front of the barrel." Then he passed out.

That was the first and last I've seen of that show but that about finishes it for me.

GEM - took out bad words.

"It was one of those malfunctions that caused the need to put my hand in front of the barrel."

It's people like him, that re-affirm to the general public that firearms are "inherently" dangerous.

For heaven's sake, he had to place himself in the line of fire to try to fix a malfunction!! Just trying to make the gun safe, he got shot! What if something REALLY went wrong?

.....

X10 3K!

I really dislike Sons of Guns.... no reality in it at all

I cannot think of a single TV program classified as "reality TV" that contains one drop of reality, whether it is gun related or not.

Reality isn't good for TV. Reality contains long periods of un-remarkable nothing. TV can't contain un-remarkable nothing. The only thing I hate more than gun related reality TV is hunting shows that claim to "show the lifestyle warts and all". Mule Muffins!

I pray for the day when reality TV is a thing of the past.

I really hope it's a phase thing. You all remember when "Fast and the Furious" first came out, and it developed an entire subculture attempting emulate the real subculture of "street racing"? Luckily for me, that happened around my high school years and I had (still have) a '73 240Z with a 355 Chevy and I got to beat up on all of those hosers :D:D:D:D but now, they have largely faded away.

Could this possibly happen with the cable viewers, where RJF/ Gunsmoke/What have you fade back into obscurity where it belongs? I sure hope it so.

...And for my $ .02... I'm a machinist and an engineer, and the way Red Jacket goes about their projects just makes me puke.

The foldable survival MAC-10 clone? Unwieldy, no true sights, limited to ten round folded, PLUS AN SBR tag?!

The solid-aluminum chunk of Desert Eagle stock? It's like an M1 carbine, but with an SBR tag, twice the price and not as cool.

Ultra-light AR consisting only of a carbon-fiber foregrip? Can't people make one of those on their own? Is four ounces a big deal if you're not Delta?

The AOW ballistic knife that was a high-school physics lesson in itself? I'm just going to say "Newton's Third Law" and leave it at that.

A CNC machine? What's that? Jesus, I have friends that built CNC's in their garage for FUN, much less important business ventures. I love my old manuals, but come on, get with the times...

My god, I need to send them my resume, because they sure need me.

/rant. sorry about that.

Honestly, I have Hulu and Netflix now, and don't miss shows like SOG, Gunsmoke, 9,000 Spanish channels and old movies from the 90's...

I watched TV for about 3 months in 2009. Other than that, I haven't watched any measurable amount of TV since 1999.

Netflix and my cable company, however, are probably losing money on me.... My household streams an average of 13 hours of Netflix (9 for me, 4 for the wife), every day.
(....Plus the "DVD-by-mail" service that I keep moving just slow enough to keep from getting throttled.)

Edit: For the record, I don't sit around for 9 hours. I just like to have Netflix playing something in the background. ;)

I have seen the mentioned shows before, but one thing that strikes me is the elitism that is broadcast. Its like these are the only people who can do it. I say nope. Others have before and after these people. The only real difference is these people have a TV show, and the others didnt, or turned it down.

I feel that the right to bear arms group as a whole would be better served with a TV show that shows the history, safety, responsibility, and the use of firearms in todays lives, instead of " hey guess what, I am the first to do this or that" no matter if it had been done before.

Its all TV drama, and beyond that I wont go further...

All of these shows just make me miss the old "Guns of the World" shows even more. We need more informational shows and less drama.

These shows aren't about guns anymore than American Chopper was about motorcycles. They are just soap operas that happen to be set in gunshops.

Sons of guns pretty much lost me after the first season. I was only partially interested in the first place. After that, they got a real budget which they appear to have spent mostly on making things explode. Then there the fact that most of their projects have little bearing on reality for the average gun hobbyist. While full-auto may be legal for many of us, having the resources to spend on a quad mount full auto creature is simply out of reach for all but a lottery winner. The "Govt/LE" projects they build seem to be of questionable real world use as well. Add to this the fact that the average non-gunsavvy citizen sees this and assumes that all gun owners are like this. They do a horrible job of covering the legal issues attached to all of their "projects."

I typically enjoy Top Shot. It works better if you think of it as a long drawn out game show rather than attaching the term "reality" to it.

It Gets Old

When I first saw that Sons of Guns was coming out, I thought "Cool!" It got muddled with drama. Same for American Guns. I like the basic subject matter, guns, but with all the drama and dumb mistakes and plain silliness (motorcycle guns, guitar guns, etc.) and the superior attitude, I rarely bother to watch either of these shows. The motorcyle and car shows of this nature have also slipped off my "To Watch" list. I still enjoy Top Shot for the competitions, but the drama gets to be a bit much sometimes although I do chuckle at some of those guys that take themselves too seriously. I would like to see more women competitors on the show to help encourage the wife to join me in the sport. Enjoyed the top ten rating shows on weapons, but didn't necessarily agree with all of them. Basic subject matter is good so I will check out any new shows on guns that may come along. TV is TV, not reality.

'Sons Of Guns' is bad, 'Doomsday Preppers' is worse. Eventually, people will associate gun owners with TEOTWAKI types and assume we're all nutjobs.

I'm with what was said earlier. I hope reality TV is over SOON! As for SOG what a waste of air time. Will is a CHOAD, his daughter creeps me out, and the only GUNSMITH he had LEFT! And American guns is just about as bad, I do like seeing the son's engraving though, looks like he does nice work. But stuff like mounting 2 .380 pistols under the bumper of some old car is plain stupid. Give me more shows with GUNNY!
Seems all these "AMERICAN this or that shows" HAVE to have the drama, bickering, argueing, etc etc after the networks figured HEY the viewers ate up the drama on OCC, so lets throw in some argueing etc in ALL our shows. Stupid Just give me my walking dead and I'm good, totally fiction but good entertainment to me!!

It Get's Old! is the right opinion of SOG......

But I'll watch it this week since this one is some sort of "behind the scenes" episode. Maybe it will have something a little more entertaining.

Oh yeah, it will! The kid gets tasered :D

Bart Noir

Rich Wyatt plays the car salesman verry well.

Will Hayden plays arrogant verry well.

Makes for good t.v., I must admit. No one would watch the shows if they were both perfect gentlemen :D They appear to be successful business men, good for them. I personally would like to earn a living somehow in the firearms industry, but if Will or Rich were my boss, I'd be seeking employment elsewhere....

But who knows, maybe they are both actually great places to work, the drama is just for t.v.....? :D

I agree. I saw this show the other night and actually got depressed. This whole "world is gonna end so I need to shoot people who come in my yard (and I'm secretly kind of excited about it!)" mentality makes me sick and truly worried about this country.

Shows like this (and plenty of websites, too) really seem to affirm aberrant anti-social behavior and make it more mainstream. I don't think it does us much good.
