I would definitely take TOP SHOT over this but American Guns may a slight step up but not much.

i dispise all of them because they try to over dramatize the gun owners and gun marketplace.

if i hear from sons of guns one more time that the shop is gunna build a fully automatic silenced bazooka for the local police force im going to cry. the stuff they build is retarded and the fact that they have so much drama in the show is retarded. if i ever had a boss like will i would quit and opwn my own shop because he has zero people or customer service skills.

another thing that makes me laugh is that i have seen tons of there guns since the show started getting transferred into my local gun store. they are the orange county coppers of the gun world. not really making anything unique just using other peoples guns and putting their names on it.

perfect example of this is their 1500 1911. its a sti 1911 with the logo shaved of the slide and their logo rolled into it. and a different set of sights put on. all for only a markup of 800 bucks over the sti version.

same goes for a lot of the ak style and ar style guns. their "rugged" ak is a saiga conversion izhmash factory ak that they disassemble and clean and add 250 bucks to the price.

its stuff like this that kills me because it makes it look like your average gun store is run by ****** off jerks and not a friendly place to go.

american guns isnt much better but atleast some of their projects are truly one offs, but most are simple projects any competent gunsmith could do with the correct time and equipment. they just over drama it for tv.

You could say that about every 1911 that isn't a Colt Series 70 or earlier.

Top Shots is the best I've seen so far. Some competitions and teams are silly, but overall they have an interesting series of challenges, firearms/weapons, and training experts.

Sons of Guns should be called Drama Queens Playing With Guns and Cobbling Together Gunlike Things.

where it is true that there are many companies that produce 1911's most make enough changes that it can atleast be called their own firearm.

and my series 70's even the gold cup didnt come with integrated light rails, titanium frames, bobed frames, skelatonized hammers, extended bevertails, night sights, etc etc

would you buy a $70,000 performance car that was a $40,000 car with a different name?

prob not,

but if that same car had been modified and had cosmetic differences to the buyers perspective it might be a worth while purchase.

The History Channel and the Military Channel have a few shows that are pretty good. Embarrassingly I do not remember the names, but they are documentary (no drama) style shows about firearms.

Did enjoy sons of guns up until that unskilled, he maybe semi skilled apprentice (I liked initially) got too big for his britches when he started dating the daughter and now that he's married to her just too much drama and nepotism going in. Will really shows he's a poor boss. Y'all see how he flips out over the employee on loan from an other shop when he mentions Vince.

American guns, Rich personifies a used car salesman and needs to tone down what his daughter wears on tv (I'm in my 20s so it's not like some fudder duffer is complaining about today's youth lol)

Top shot has a lot of drama, but that show is a competition so I can kinda see the dramatics.

A good show is the color of war.

Oh yeah, I like the Military Channel's show Triggers with Will Willis. Really liked his show Special Ops Mission and Triggers is pretty good as well.

I don't think any show is going o really rag on any firearm, so you have to take some of it with a grain of salt. I did like his comparison of the M1 Garand with the AK47 in close range assault scenario: more accurate at the longer range of 100 yd and 75 yd, but slower to hit on the close targets. But a malfunction with an M1?! Not possible!!!!! :D

Anyone watching Hot Shots, on the Versa/NBCSports channel, Sundays at 9am?
Real shootists at real matches and breaking real records.

I find Top Gun semi-enjoyable although some misinformation comes out of it.
Sons of Guns & American guns are pretty poor representations of American gun owners, mostly for the drama. Don't care for either cast except that little darling on AG. Any doll that can look that good & strip a 1911 is good in my book!

Yeah, I still watch some of American Gun......now and then.

Sons of Guns is nauseating. The guns are cool, but everything else is buffoonish at best and its seldom at its best.

Top Shots is kind of fun, but the whole "vote them off" concept and the teams living together drama ruins it.

Triggers is full of meaningless "challenges" between guns, totally unsupported conclusions, and running commentary filled with nearly all the BS that's been circulated in the gun press for the last century.

I also have heartburn with any of the Top 10 class shows when they rate guns. Even Tales of the Gun screws up many commonly known things.

It's one thing when they present opinions as facts (bad), but when they present facts, and get them wrong, in my view, its worse.

I do like seeing the guns, and seeing them being shot. Leave out the other crap and I be a constant fan. As it is, I watch some of them, some times, but I don't waste DVR space on any of them.

I like the stuff on the History Channel with R. Lee Emery as host. Lock 'N' Load? I think it's called.

Academy is now selling Red Jacket built AR's at $1200 a pop. Wasn't that impressed with the one I looked at.

Sons of Guns; American Guns...

I posted a few remarks about Discovery's Sons of Guns series here about 3mo ago.
The "backstory" of the TV series is that Will & his daughter Steph lost their FFL & had major legal problems with the DoJ & ATF. Poor business practices & audits/loss of firearm documents were some of the legal issues.
"Vince" was put "in charge" of Red Jacket & the company on paper.
I have mixed views of the TV series. I know they edit & change a lot but a few of the mistakes & flubs are just mind-blowing.
How do work on a weapon then forget to bring any CLP or gun oil when you go shoot it/demo it?
Also how does an "important" firearm that means so much get sent out in a beat up cracked gun case?
American Guns is okay. The family seems more stable & professional then the Sons of Guns cast.

would you buy a $70,000 performance car that was a $40,000 car with a different name?

Isn't this the age old "Corvette v. Camaro" question? I can pay less money for a Camaro ZL1 which will perform just as well as the Corvette, if not better. Slap the "Corvette" name on it and folks will pay tens of thousands of dollars more for it.

There really isn't a hill of beans difference between most 1000+ 1911's; far more similarities than differences.

I watch them because they are entertaining.
Certainly show biz first, guns far second.
American Guns is pure nonsense. The women are good to look at but the camera doesn't stay on the lone enough. ;)
