So it's been eight days since "week one"....where's week two?
If she still has it, I imagine it's sitting in a closet somewhere. By now, she's shown all her friends, who showed the appropriate disgust for the implement and praised her for her bravery.

Which is really what folks like this want: attention and validation from the choir.

You can help someone who is frightened of guns, not like this Lady, just stupid.

Case in point, Female reporter (TV) attended my range (Canada) wanted to do a sound, and visual for their viewers. To do with Police going to Semi-auto pistols.

Showed her how to aim and shoot a Glock 17, only loaded one round (My Mum did not grow stupid kids) gun club, cardboard IPSC target, 7yds away. BANG! She made a mess of the voice over, had to do it again.

First round dead center hit! Patch on the first round, second time around, sound bite good! Boxed pistol.... She ran down range to see her hit. One inch from the first one! She was jumping up and down, I signed her target, She was so proud of her self. Yes, and not frightened of guns anymore, just two shots did that, oh yes, and some instruction.

You may be interested that way back, MS had articles denouncing the SW Ladysmith models.

The argument was that using firearms and promoting them to women was support a male paradigm of violence. Women should not adopt male ways of dealing with crime, etc.

While there is a point to trying to reduce a culture of violence, denying efficacious means of self-defense is not sensible.

Ladysmiths were particularly offensive. On the other hand, some guys wouldn't buy the SW 3913 LS - which was a really nice 9. SW had to make some without the LS so they wouldn't be challenged. I missed the chance to get a LS for a good price. Still regret it.

Sorry that you missed out on your LadySmith, Glenn.

The whole "woman are naturally such peaceful creatures" thing is such BS.
God forbid Ms fail to embrace the victorian ideal of peaceful ladylike cyphers who need the world to conform to them because they are too delicate to do it themselves.

Today, sexisms biggest contributor is the ladies.

I have never seen a man hit a woman (exception of my dad spanking my younger sister when she was 5 but that's entirely different)

I have seen a woman hit a man multiple times.

I have also seen many more examples of woman hitting men then men hitting woman.

I also would note that men of younger generations seem to be aquiring the philosophy of hitting back. I can't say I blame them.

For some idiotic reason I've been keeping an eye on her equally idiotic blog.
Based on the comments getting through their "moderation" (censorship) its really boiled down to self promotion and backpatting from her lalaland followers.

I wonder if Ms gets a cut of her book sales?

In the big picture, I don't really see anything going on with this magazine thing that any magazine, print or online, doesn't do. They don't really start out to be investigative reporters. They start out with an idea for an article that will appeal to their demographics. They (Ms) is in the business of selling magazines to (apparently) people who are afraid of guns. So they got this lady to do a project geared toward exactly that demographic. To "disprove" the beliefs of their audience would be like if "Today's Catholic" wrote an article demonstrating that protestants or jews have more fun, or go to heaven faster, or whatever it might be that catholics base their choice on.

We (big hairy men with guns on our hips) just get a little wanked thinking that such silliness exists. But it does exist. It's not just this goofy lady who thinks like that. A lot of people think like that. Going to Ms magazine for objective gun reports is clearly not the best approach. But their readers probably don't want objective. They want affirmation.

All that being said...Geez is that lady goofy...

I bought one when Bud's closed out stock on them at a pretty decent price. They are indeed nice pistols. I only stopped carrying mine because it was a slide mounted safety and didn't want to get confused with off/on when I started mostly carrying 1911s.

I suspect that she is really not that scared of the thing. She may be attempting to write about all the things that could go wrong or could have if... over the course of 30 days, but given the liability on her part I doubt anything will.

So at the end of 30 days when nothing happens does it prove that any reasonable person can safely buy and use a gun?

I suspect that she is really not that scared of the thing.

You might be very correct. She's an entertainer, not a detective. Her job is not to uncover objective facts and evidence. Her job is to entertain the readers of a magazine. She appears to be entertaining us non-readers as well.

SgtLumpy,

Ms magizine isn't really that kind of magizine. It's a feminist rag promoting the ideals of a materarical society disgused as feminism.
Sales is less important then preaching the gosple as it were. So in a big way, you're right, too.

I've actually had run in's with them before.

Let's avoid direct discussions of feminism, as they're really outside the purview of the forum.

...still waiting to see if anyone can find that old article in Ms. about women and guns. First one to find it gets one of Glenn's cookies!

That makes her a danger to herself and others.

I don't really think so. Again, she's an entertainer, not a firearms instructor or an investigative journalist. So far, it appears the only kind of suggestion or advice she has for any of her readers is to not look at or touch a firearm for fear that it might go off and cause your car's gas tank to explode.

Couldn't get much safer than for people to never look at or touch a gun.

They're selling entartainment. Just like Dirty Harry or Lethal Weapon or Die Hard. None of those had realistic firearms usage. I really doubt that a woman (or anyone) who was considering getting a gun would say "I'll get some training from looking in MS (or any) magazine". Only WE do that...;) And if someone WAS to say "I was thinking of getting a gun but I read this thing in MS magazine and now I think I won't". Then that's the kind of person that probably shouldn't get a gun anyway.

Like Tom Servo mentioned earlier, this woman is dangerous and not only does she know it, she is exploiting that danger for a perceived political gain.

FWIW, Ms blog won't be running Ms. Yewman's next three blog posts, due to the immense amount of feedback which they characterize as "threatening".

From the publisher's mouth:
We have not “bowed to the altar of guns.” Ms. Yewman’s follow-up articles will be published in the Huffington Post.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who felt Heidi was being very unsafe and in fact she failed one of her objectives, being ready to protect myself. She was never ready. I read the comments on her blog and tried twice to post on myself, which of course was censored. I'm not surprised. I am a woman but I would never do what she has done. I have taken a basic pistol safety class and will be taking a personal protection class in July. Tis is all before i ever consider purchasing a gun of my own.

I'm not surprised the magazine is not going to run the other installments. The editor cannot accept the truth that there are gun owners who are responsible and don't just do 'the bare minimum'.

Well, yes, the fact that gun owners are logical, intellgent people with the ability to make reasoned discourse is very threatening to ranting zelots.

;)
