Bolt action .22 LR

Which .22 LR bolt action?

I own CZ's but they don't compare to the Winchester 52.

Old saying goes "There are .22's.....and then there's the 52's". Later runs of the Winchester and Browning reproductions can be found pretty reasonable.

Want a real bargain that you can dress up with some nice wood?

Scour the used rifle racks for a Springfield Model 56 (made by Savage/Stevens). They are typically dirt cheap. -As in $75 or less.
By far, my favorite bolt action .22. And they'll even feed .22 short from the detachable magazine.

Never owned or shot a CZ, but have owned a Ruger 77/22 for many years. It's a wood/blue version. Only thing I would change is if it were stainless synthetic. It is very accurate and nicely balance. For hunting and casual plinking it is far away my favorite. For paper punching I might look at others but I love my 77/22 for what I do with it.

Just stopped by the LGS after work to check out a CZ 455 and I was impressed. Not big on the backward safety but it's not a deal breaker. I think I'm gonna give one a try. Really nice looking rifle.

Only thing to decide now is: just a 22lr for $409 or the convertible for $629 with 3 different barrels. 22lr, 22 mag, and .17. I should probably just get the 22lr.

Forgot to ask if it came with rings. Does anyone know?

Pretty sure they do not come with Rings. None of mine did. Also IIRC they use a slightly different dovetail or some such (don't hold me to this). I know Burris makes a set that fit them.

I have a CZ 452 so can't comment beyond that.

The 452, however, is really nice. The trigger is a little firm compared to a bigger brother I also have but still breaks quite cleanly.

It's accurate and easy to maintain. Definitely a gu I should get out and shoot more!!

I have the 452 Trainer, Ruger 7722 and an Anschutz MPR64.

The CZ has been bedded and has had a trigger job. The Ruger has been both glass bedded and piller bedded and a trigger job. The Annie is stock.

With the right ammo, the Ruger and CZ hang right with the Annie at 50 yards. The Annie IS picky. That rifle shoots pretty good with Norma TAC, SK Std, Center X and Wolf Target. The trigger is so light that I have dialed as much pressure as I can. As received, it was about 6-8 oz. Now it is about 1 lb. I wish I could put a little more in it. I have a Vortex FFP scope on it mounted on a Picatinny rail.

I have Picatinny rails on the other two rifles but am using Nikon P22s on them.

The triggers on the Ruger and CZ have been worked on but are not after market triggers.

The Ruger and the CZ are not picky about ammo. They shoot fine with just about everything. All the rifles shoot better with ammo running about 1100 fps than they do with the high velocity stuff.

Hope this helps. If I was shopping for a rifle today, I would really be looking closely at a CZ 455 heavy barrel. I am impressed with the 452 I have and wonder how much better the gun would be with a heavy barrel.

I have a little CZ scout 22....This thing really surprised me....It's a tack driver....

The CZ's are little rough around the edges and nice as finely finished as some but you very rarely hear of one that doesn't shoot and there was a point that they were VERY inexpensive for the quality of the gun. They still are a good value but after the "secret" got out the prices seemed to go up a bit.

My CZ 452s are some of my most favorite rifles.:D

try to find a cz-452 american. there is a couple nib on gunbroker right now for less than $400 i believe. get one while you can. the dovetail is 3/8" on the 452 american and the 455 american is 11mm i think. try and get the 452 if you can.nothing wrong with the 455. its just not a 452. the 455 has the interchangeable barrel system and the 452 the barrel is screwed into the receiver like a regular rifle so no interchangeable barrel. you can get a 455 any old time. you owe it to yourself to get a 452 american while you can.
good luck,
eddie

A rifle is a rifle. They all do the same thing. What separates each of these two models you picked. The CZ's ability to change out its barrel to another caliber. Having that feature alone is worth its purchase. Although the CZ's saftey is opposite in operation when compared to others. Not to worry you'll get use to it.

Both are nice rifles for sure but I'd opt for the Ruger. I especially liked the variant that came with open sights but I don't think it's offered any more. And since you're "not opposed to buying a used gun", you might try to find the classic-looking Remington Model 504 for consideration-mine is very accurate and well-made.

Bought a 455 with iron sights last year. Scary accurate at 50 yards. Definitely put a smile on my face. Doesn't hurt that it's a nice looking rifle too.

I own both, ruger is a very good rifle but i prefer bolt/lever/pump gun in .22 for reliability reasons.

I was waiting for a CZ 452 but when a 455 became available I bought it. Still looking (locally) for a 452, either the Ultra Lux or the Varmint. Who knows, maybe both?
