Between Bob Munden and Jerry Miculek, who do you like better? Which of the two do you think is the best shooter? Any stories of meeting them in person or what they're like off the range? Thanks.
I'd say they're probably both about the same. they don't really do exactly the same thing so I'm sure each has a ton of tricks that the other might have trouble with.
Trigger skill or human capacity?
I don't much like swollen heads nor do I like a mousy wimp for friends... If you are top of your game I expect you to be confident but I ain't hanging out with no plaxico type attitudes.
I am also far from the bottom in many realms and try my best to stay level bubble with those both above and below my level of knowledge...
Miculek seems level grounded and I know nothing of Munden....
So gentleman jerry thus far...
Brent
They have different skill sets and specialize with different platforms.
I've seen Bob do some things that Jerry can't match * and I've seen Jerry do some things ** that Bob can't.
* Draw from a holster and hit two different targets with a single action revolver & live ammunition so fast that the ear can't separate the sound of the two shots. * Draw and shoot a single action revolver with live ammunition hitting a 2' x 4' steel, rectangle target 21' away in 21 hundredths of one second.
** Shoot 6 shots, reload, 6 shots with a double action revolver in less than 3 seconds hitting a human sized target with all 12 shots. ** Using a double action revolver in each hand with the targets at 180 degrees and the shooter in the middle shoot 6 shots on a Bianchi Cup targets with each hand in less than 1 second. Twelve shots total, 6 on each target. Jerry takes a sight picture on the gun in his right hand and then watches his left hand gun as he shoots. He shoots the right hand gun purely by feel.
I have met and watched Bob Munden perform, I was not impressed. He is good, no doubt, but came across as arrogant and condescending. I was not the only one present who thought so, my friends agreed. I have never met Jerry in person, but from what I have seen of him on TV, he seems to be more grounded.
A few years ago it would have been Munden hands down but he is now well into his 60s and although he still does exihibitions he is no near as good as he once was. In his prime he could draw and fire all six rounds in the time it took me to draw and fire once..I was no where near a pro, but .4 of a second is pretty decent, but that was 15 years ago. Now a reverse spin and reholster is my forte!
I like Jerry's attitude. Can't speak much for the other guy.
Did anyone catch Jerry on the History channel doing that revolver speed reload blindfolded? That was sweet. I think it was 14yrds, 12shots, blindfolded in 5.3secs. Unbelieveable. Hit the target with all 12 rnds.
I'm of the opinion that "Jelly" Bryce was one of the best shooters who ever drew breath, but I'm starting to think I'm one of the extremely few who has even heard of him

"Look here, I'm going to shoot this thumb tack from 10 feet away *yawn* it sure will be impressive, zzzzz.... huh? what? What was I doing? Oh yeah...." He's an incredible talent in speed shooting but he doesn't make good TV unless they cut right to the action, something besides thumb tacks.
Jerry is a cousin of the wife of a friend of mine (that make sense?). He visits them on occasion so my friend has had a chance to talk to him quite a lot. He states that both Jerry and Jerry's wife (also a shooter) are very "real and down to earth people". I'm hoping that I can "just happen to drop by one day" while they are there. I'm sure I could get invited if I asked but I hate bothering someone when they are trying to relax even if they don't mind.
Personally, I think that JM has the edge is over-all skills. I can't even imagine how many rounds he must have went thru to get to the level he's on now. And how did he ever afford all that ammo prior to being sponsored???
Wow!
Munden is more a character, and he also has his skill, but if I had to have one of these two come with me to a gunfight, I would pick Jerry 100% of the time.
One of the neatest thing I ever saw JM do was when he shot that .45 3 times on each of 5 targets. It sounded like he was shooting short bursts from a fully automatic H&K MP5. It was on a recent episode of "Impossible Shots" and I'm glad I got it on tape.
both are good, no doubt, I think jerry may be a little better, I like him better too. Seems like a good guy you'd like to hang around with. Munden's pretty arrogant and he's not even good at being arrogant, if that makes sense.
I think that Bob's personality on TV is very different than in person. Yeah he is getting up there but he can still shoot better than I ever wished I could.
You can call him up on the phone and he or Becky are a pleasure to talk to. He actually answer's his own phone on the first ring. Seems real down to earth to me.
