Black marks on cylinder

I had a stainless pot that my mother in law needed cleaned up, as she had burned it badly. My test on it was too much trouble to photograph, and I'm having trouble with Photobucket. I decided to mechanically polish the pot, and go on to a better test.

Here's what I learned from the pot (which is harder than most gun stainless.)
Lead away is abrasive, but not as abrasive as: Rust Eraser, green Scotchbrite, maroon Scotchbrite.

I went on to use a piece of 1095 high carbon steel with as-supplied finish. This steel, in it's annealed state is still harder than gun steel.

I abraded the steel with 400 grit sandpaper, Rust Eraser, Green Scotchbrite, maroon scotchbrite, Simichrome, and NeverDull wadding.

I can say that Rust Eraser is extremely abrasive-about 600 grit.
Green Scotchbrite is extremely abrasive at about 400 grit.
Maroon Scotchbrite- about 600 grit.
Simichrome- abrasive, extremely fine grit-2500+.
NeverDull- not particularly abrasive
Lead Away- I forgot to use it-sorry.

I'll try to post pics soon.
