Big Boy Steel Carbine!

Well, I got to start recording OAL's! Finished off a box of Hornady 125 grain JHP, with those bullets being about 35 years old (just didn't like them in my Model 19!). They fed perfectly. Bought a new box of Hornady 125 grain JHP that appear almost identical. Don't know why, but about half would not cycle.

What was different? The old ones had far more lead exposed and the new ones had the copper jacket go closer to the HP. Shape was about the same. Will try some more this evening, and will lengthen them a tad. If I have any issue, I suppose I'll just move to .357 cases for extra length, as it appears the Henry wants more length!

I think problems with the shorter cartridges is not uncommon.

I know Big Horn Armory delayed their 460 SW rifle because they could not get it to feed 454, and 45 colt reliably with the 460 still working. Not sure how they fixed it. The difference there is pretty extreme at .7" 38 special to 357 is only about .040", but not the first time I have read of problems.

I will take a recoil pad on a 10/22 by the way. I've got a straight stock Italian 12 ga folder without one, but I'll take one when I can get it.

I have a few rifles with thin rubber but plates, cant really call them recoil pads but they came on the stocks. My Weatherby MkV has a thick ol recoil pad and I hate that thing but to take it off would make the LOP too short. I don't have any shotguns with one. I started shooting hard kicking 12 gauges when I was 11 so I guess I'm not recoil sensitive at all. yeah, I can be hurt but it takes a thumper to do it. :D I actually enjoy recoil.
