Big Boy Steel Carbine!

I was looking for a new high-quality carbine in .357 magnum. Henry makes a Big Boy Carbine but it's just too heavy (and pretty) for what it is. Their Big Boy Steel satisfies the want for something more functional in a 20" barrel so I emailed and asked if they had any plans to release a shorter version. Their president told me that it would be out late this year!

I don't know about you but I already started adding to the Christmas gun fund! :)
 
If you want something a little different, take a look at the Ruger M77 357 bolt gun. It's an absolute joy to shoot and while not as accurate as some of the other offerings on the market it's accurate enough to get the job done.

It's a shoot 5 and let it cool for a bit rifle. I love it. It will be my deer rifle this fall if I can get to my buddy's property.

I've never actually seen a bolt gun in .357 magnum. It's a neat idea but I'm more interested in lever or pump action for my revolver-cartridge carbine needs.
 
I agree the 77/357 is a great little rifle, and while I like the Big Boy Steel, I did not care for the 20" barrel, but a carbine with 16" barrel would be an excellent addition to the Henry line-up.
 
There's just something special about slinging a dozen or more hot magnums downrange from a leevra-gun. Something that bolties can't match. ;)

I said that on day one. Between this one coming up and my "if only Ruger would release a 4" SP101 in .327 Federal" wish coming true, this is shaping up to be a very good year. :)

Bowhunter57, that's the carbine version of the standard Big Boy. The news here is that they're making a carbine version of the lighter, sleeker, and slightly less expensive Big Boy Steel. For reference, it will be a shorter version of this:

Can you only load these Henry rifles through the magazine tube? I personally would prefer a traditional loading gate, no tube to fumble around with and lose/bend in the field.

My understanding is this is one of the cost cutting measures used for the Henry rifles. If you want a loading gate you'll have to pay more for the pricier brands.
 
I just got my Bigboy Steel .357 last week and even though I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet I really like it. If it shoots as nice as I hope I'm going to love it. I've been cycling it and dry firing it a lot with snap caps and it's pretty smooth, trigger is a little gritty but already smoothing out some. Nice moderate pull weight with a clean let off. Unfortunately I'm going to be out of town for a couple weeks so won't get to shoot it until I get back.
 
The steel Big Boy carbines are already available. While looking through the .44M Henrys for sale on GB, I came a cross a couple of carbine listings.

Now: Does anyone know for sure if the receivers are investment cast or forged?
 
I just wish they had a loading gate, as a 16yr old kid I thought that was the coolest thing about my new M94. I will say I like the looks of the "steel" better than the yellow boy's. That 357 pictured is pretty!
