This has gone Off-Topic. The thread is a about Goblins, not the "JBT"

Erik,

I wasn't aware that there was a difference. Maybe you could explain it to me? :D

This has indeed been debated over and over on TFL.

BG's yelling 'Police!' has also happened in Arizona.

LEO's have no real answer for this problem. IMHO, it is a problem born of very bad policy ... no-knocks.

The real solution is for no-knocks to be either eliminated or scaled back to very, very limited use. LEO's aren't likely to do that .... every town now seems to have a SWAT team, and some LEO's literally enjoy the excitement of 'dynamic' entries.

So, as honest citizens, I suppose we (1) hope it doesn't happen to us, (2) consider using rifles for home defense, and (3) make the home modifications we can afford.

I appreciate the LEO members of TFL, and I know many of them are torn on this policy as well. It is a damn shame that honest civilians have to worry about this issue, and I regard this as a symptom of what is currently wrong in this country. I'm left wondering if 'honest' Germans worried about this issue, and having Brown Shirts mistake their homes as Jewish. Strong language? Think about it.

Open fire.

If it's the Bad Guys, hopefully you survive and live to be sued by the relatives.

If it's the ATF, they were going to kill you or plant evidence and ruin your life anyway.

If it's the cops, assuming they don't shoot you they will steal your "arsenal" and arrest you anyway, so you life is pretty much trashed.

You stand a good chance of getting killed by the cops or having your life ruined anyway, so why not fight?

My answer: Since neither I nor anyone domiciled with me has ever broken any laws, there could be no justification for any attempt by police to enter my home by force: THEREFORE, I assume that any and all such attempts are felonious, and will be answered as such, with force major.
One of the advantages to being an old fart with an empty nest and not a hell of a lot to lose, is that you can make choices like this, and damn the outcome.

My policy is the same. I'm not a criminal or a bail jumper, so anything that comes crashing through my door with a gun unannounced, whether it yells "police" or not, will be subject to any degree of force that I deem necessary to stop it. Any injuries or deaths that result are the sole responsibility of the door bashers, be they real cops or impersonators.

If you're really worried about this, it seems the *first* line of defense should be a really, really strong door. (Or maybe an outdoor motion sensor should be first?) I remember, a couple of decades ago, police took a news crew along on a warrant search. They yelled "POLICE" and almost immediately started pounding on the door with sledgehammers. And pounding. And pounding. [/quote]

I think I remember seeing something similar on one of those "reality" shows like "Cops". IIRC the incident I saw was somewhere in Arizona and the homeowner ended being charged with "having a residence no readily accessible to law enforcement" or some garbage, I kid you not!

Whatever happened to the days of the cops sitting outside on the bullhorn saying "We know you are in there. We have you surrounded. Come out with your hands up."?

War on Drugs and the big stash flush.

87% of SWAT raids are for drugs.

Don't take the TV stuff seriously. Most drug dealers don't resist as they know the game.

Thus, you can have raids which if faced with serious opposition would become disasters.
