Beware ... 1st time gun buyer question to follow!

You can buy Mec Gar CZ mags (Mec Gars are OEM for CZ) all day long for $25. I wouldn't let the mags make your decision even if they were twice the price.

I personally have not heard good things about Beretta, but really it's up to you.

Choose the pistol that fit's your hand best. It's also a good idea to choose a caliber that is cheap to shoot (9mm is the cheapest and most common)

??? Really????? What bad things have you heard? Let me guess cracked slides flying off?

Really the 92FS is a great gun it might not work for every shooter but it is hard to argue that it is not a rock solid battle tested design.

The 92FS is just fine, they solved the whole cracked slide thing decades ago.
That being said, I don't think any normal gun owner is going to go out and
torture-test a M9 with 15,000 rounds in a week...of course the Army found issues!!

OP kind of answered his own question, if it feels good, the controls are where you need 'em,
that's what you buy. Don't overthink it.

Unless you live in a place where you are limited to only one gun a year,
buy what you like :)
That being said, chances are it's only the FIRST of MANY gun purchases
that you will make over the next ten-twenty years...so ENJOY!!

Nothing tells one what they like or don't like than going out
and shooting the BLEEP out of something...
run 1K rounds thru it and you'll know :)

Once you have a 92, next year get a Glock & a 1911...cover the spread ;)
Main thing, just enjoy the hobby!!

They're already choosing another replacement, after half the duration of the 1911.

Personally I think that has more to do with the evolution of sidearms in the past 20 years, than through any fault of the M9. There are so many more options available now, and simple improvments to tailor guns to the shooter are all the rage in the polymer world.

In reality it is probably driven by politics, with some 4 star trying to leave their mark. Again, not the M9's fault.

Personally I'd like to try a CZ variety but when I've looked into them (lightly) it seems a lot like the FAL or AK market with many options and vendors. Maybe someone should start a separate CZ buying thread for the Ill-informed

Do you mean CZ clones?

I've got mine, so I'm not in the market, but I agree, an honest low-down on the Caneks, IMI Jerichos, EAAs, Tanfoglios, Sphinx's and other makers of the world would be very handy!!

I'd suggest you shoot some more 9mm guns out there....XD's, a 1911, the Beretta, some Sigs, etc ...whatever you can find locally.

You should evaluate how they feel in your hands / can you reach the controls without moving your grip, evaluate how the trigger breaks and resets - and the grip angle ...and see if you can see any differences in the various models../ fry firing them isn't like actually firing them - but it'll eliminate a gun where you can't reach the mag release or something fundamental without moving your grip.

If you stay with a 9mm...and the big name mfg's...its hard to see that you won't end up with a decent gun / but let the hobby evolve for you a little bit...and reevaluate it down the road in 6 months ( and hopefully 50 boxes of ammo or so thru the gun ).

and remember to have fun with the process...don't be in too big a hurry to find "the one".

I am a police officer and my police force issues the M9 (military version of the Beretta 92FS). It is a fine pistol for target shooting and defensive use. The Beretta is designed so that the ejected casings are nearly unobstructed. Also the open slide design gives the option of loading one round at a time should that be necessary. You can load directly into the chamber. There are also many Beretta 92 series pistols out there new and used so finding one with the price you like should be fairly easy. There are many holster makers that make holsters for it. The Beretta 92 can also team up with the Beretta CX4 carbine to help make a good home defense combo. The carbine is also fun on the range. I believe you will enjoy the Beretta very much.

You have difficulty remembering what you posted, you wrote about aluminum frames being a problem which is BS. I have a 92FS with other 10,000 rounds through it and there is NO wear. Now you're writing about cracking slides which you know nothing about. Your posts are starting to show a serious lack of knowledge.

And your posts are starting to show a serious arrogance..

I have seen enough aluminum frames that have cracked including Walthers, Colts and others, that I know enough to prefer steel. I also know that early on, Beretta slides cracked, hence the "fix" of the large headed pint to prevent the shooter from wearing the slide in his face. Of course, according to you, I know nothing about that. And I won't even bring up locking blocks.

Stick with your Beretta if it's what makes you happy.

At this point, I will agree to disagree and you can agree to be disagreeable.
