Hey Pretty Boy...you are doing good this is one of the few if not only posts you have made that haven't gotten locked yet. I must say you are one funny guy I hope you stay on as a regular member here I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Anyways yeah you should get a M1 Garand and have clips hidden all over your house WTSHTF. Maybe even a laser rangefinder you know one of the ones that will go out to about 1000 yards. But you should know that being a seel!!!! Aggggghhhhhh who am I kidding I just am not as experienced and comical as you are.

Is this guy a joke?!This is the first post I've read by this guy/boy? and can't believe someone this stupid is actually allowed near firearms.

Since I want to live in the same type of neighborhood as PrettyBoy who apparently thinks a scoped rifle is necessary, could someone suggest a good turret mounted anit-aircraft gun as well? This is just in casre those attacking my home do so from the air.

I think He's a regular from here or somwhere else just playing around. Even a total boob would have a least guessed some things right about firearms by now. I think if he was serious he would have gotten angry by now, instead he just comes up with wilder stuff. It is hillarious, hope he continues to make a "guest appearence" occasionally to keep things light around here. Do a search on his post they are all like this :D

I did what my personal friend Carlos showed me back in NAM. I just mounted one of my leftover Unertl scopes on an M-2 that I just bought illegally, heck w/ 1000 yds, I'm getting those girl scouts at 2500 when they cross my countyline. Can't chance lettin them place some of those "Samoan" anti-personnel devices on my doorstep, my doc told me those things kill!

I think prettyboy meant, "for defense of the homeland".

Otherwise, if you are serious, I think that protecting/clearing a home (your house) with a scoped sniper rifle would void the manufacturer's warranty, both scope and rifle! Oh yeah, its also against California gun laws to protect your personal residence while utilizing a scope (optical enhancer), unless of course, you use a preban scope.

If I had to go this route I would choose an M1A with heavy walnut stock for butt strokin and attached bayonet for pokin :D Of course I would check the zero on my scope when done.

Turret-Mounted AA Guns

Well, you might consider the Breda-Bofors Dardo twin 40mm L/70 system. It holds 444 rounds of ready-use, proximity-fuzed ammo and fires at 600 rpm, effective range 4,375 yards or so.

A second option might be the Oerlikon Goalkeeper with the 7-bbld 30mm Avenger cannon found in the A-10 Warthog. 4,200 rpm with a 3,200 yard effective range.

Another option might be the Contraves Seaguard Quad 25mm AA/CIWS. Four barrels, each firing at 850 rpm with a 2,650 yard effective range.

Finally, you could consider the Phalanx, mounting the 6-bbld 20mm M-61 gatling cannon. Fire rate of 6,000 rounds and effective range of 1,640 yards.

Disclaimer: For maximum home defense effect, you should tie these systems into the newly available SPY-1CV (Civilian Version) of the Aegis fire-control system. Or for the budget minded, a Contraves Flycatcher AD radar would suffice.

Good choices, Bulldozer. I opted for a surplus Russian ZSU-23-4 because it was cheaper. The only time I've needed to use it was when someone came around soliciting funds for the Klinton Legal Defense. I won, but I never figured out if the defense fund was for Bubba or Hitlery. So, you see Pretty Boy, these people telling you a scoped rifle isn't for home defense just don't understand. They may think the ZSU-23-4 is overkill, but I like its intimidation factor. And Floyd, I thought you were dead.

As a former 21G20 (Pershing Programmer/Test Station Operator), I prefer to use an appropriate amount of firepower for my home defense.

My little Pershing 1A with a 440 Kiloton tactical warhead would allow me to reply in court "But your Honor, I only fired once!

I keep one of these in my living room aimed at the front door. Any unexpected guest usually quickly turns a 180 and runs their ass out of there.

Well, just to bring this post back to SOME semblance
of common sense -- I actually know people that use
scoped rifles for home defense, but from four legged
predators, of course. As everyone except our friend
the poser knows...

Actually, if you live in a rural area, your choice of
rifle for home defence depends on the local fauna.
If there is a rabies threat, which there is in my
area, the 22LR with a 2.5x optic that you plink
raccoons with is a 'home-defense gun', isn't it?
In mountain lion country, probably a scoped Winchester
30-30, and in bear country, 'bring enough gun', but
maybe this is where the Steyr Scout comes into play
as a 'General Purpose Rifle'.

See, if you stretch it enough, you can make it into
a legitimate thread.

Mike.

let's get a little more range, and effect, how about a 105 , take out the car, bus or whatever the bg is riding in if we get enough rounds in the area.

for those close encounters we'll use a mortar and at long last if they are still coming through our mine fields, we fall back on or lowly m2, .............

out there dude......or is it dud?

Sure, you guys can poke fun, but PrettyBoy is an ex-SEEL! His home-defense needs are completely different from the rest of us because he's got enemy operatives working 24 hours a day trying to pinpoint his location.

And to those fo you who are making light of the girlscout/brownie threat, let me tell you, it's real! They knock on your door, ask you to buy some cookies, and before you know it *BAM*--complete dynamic entry (and they can really move in those little saddle shoes, let me tell you). You're flexicuffed on the floor while they're pulling a snatch-op on the cookie jar--and God forbid you've got a kitten in the house! I've seen it a hundred times.

That's why, if you're serious about home defense, you need to have a complete interior/exterior claymore layout, pressurized floor panels, and a whole lot of firepower. Of course, you can't stop there. You may want to look into a stinger missile or two--never can tell when that United 747 may have bad intentions...

Best scoped sniper rifle for HD

Well...as pointed out by a few prior posters, one can never have TOO much gun or range.

.308 is really a bit on the light side for engaging those long-range threats that pose an immediate hazard to your domicile. For perimeter defense (as a stopgap only), I currently reach for my .300 WinMag Remington 700 PSS- I haven't the funds yet to properly equip her with a good Leupold, or go full-bore and just get a NightForce- but, hell, I chant the appropriate mantra before I squeeze, so I'm sure it will come out right.

Anyway, when discretionary funds allow, I will be properly outfitted with a Russian 14.5mm distance gun, with a 10-40x60mm scope from a maker that I cannot legally disclose. As another kind poster observed, the ZSU close-in air defense weapon is a real bargain, with the Russian economy being what it is. It makes a hell of a mess on pesky rats, starlings, and other vermin at 12 yards. Be prepared to rebuild your barn a lot, though...but we reel SEEL-type stone killers can do that in an afternoon, by ourselves, naked, without power tools...
