best deal you ever

Traded a blemished PSA Lower for a Mod 13-2. I paid $66.99 for the lower since I got free transfers at the gunshop I worked at. Ended up feeling bad so I added a trigger guard, and buffer tube. The guy was happy.

Now the only issue with it is that the previous owner decided he was a gunsmith, so my model 13 has been waiting for parts since July.

I once got a Five Inch M27 from a friend at work...

for $200. It is blue and has had 'words said over' the action. He knew it was worth more, but knew I'd appreciate the revolver (he inherited it.)

That was in the late 1990s.

Oh. I went to a gun show looking for a 'target built' Colt Government Model; for bullseye shooting. I found just exactly what I was seeking for $700 I think - which was about what I was thinking it should cost.

I took it home and shot it. Then cleaning it, I found a stamping on the bottom of the slide: "Jimmy Clarke, Shreveport, LA. Feb 1962"

If unfamiliar with the name, look him up. The pistol is worth more than what I paid. At a walk.

A few years ago a found a 6" GP100 blue short shroud new (in box) for $225. When the store couldn't locate the box they knocked off another $10. A year later they called that they'd found the box if I wanted to come down and pick it up.

This had been a discontinued item for a number of years before I stumbled across it after the store, apparently, stumbled across first in storage somewhere.

Couple of years ago, I bought a 6" Model 28-2 for $250.00. Last year I bought a nickeled Model 38 for $300 and my wife stole it as hers until I found her a nickeled Colt Pocket Positive in good shape for $300.00. She promptly returned my Model 38. She liked the Colt better because it was just like a pistol her father always carried.

Sig 239 9mm, excellent condition, box, papers, spare mag. $400.

And my SP101 Ruger .38 spl. Yes .38 and not .357. One of the first ones made. Paid $300 not 6 months ago.

I still have 'em both.

A S&W 19-2 4". MAde in 1967. Pinned and recessed. Diamond grips. Perfect condition. Must have sat in a sock draw for 35 years. Bought it at a local shop for $249. $270 out the door.

Loved it but it was so pretty I was nervous even holding it. Shot 12 rounds out of it and cleaned it. Sold it a year after I got it for $750.

But I do miss it.

How a bout a new Hamilton Bowen conversion of a Ruger 50th anniversary .357 Blackhawk to .44 special for $400 otd? The other good deal was a S&W model 34 with a 2" bbl for $200? These good deals don't make up for the Times I spent way too much for a "haveta" have.

Best deal on a complete gun was in about 8 years ago on a Dan Wesson 715, with 3 grips, in near mint condition, custom sights, some parts, paperwork, for $269. I kept wondering why no one was bidding it up, what was I missing? Somehow, only two of us were bidding on it, and I ended up getting it. I was worried until I saw it when I picked it up at the FFL.

Best deal ever was out in Arizona someplace, at a gun shop that was closing up due to the owner terminal illness. I asked him, "Do you have any Dan Wesson stuff?". He hands me this box, weighed about 20 pounds, and says, "$50, it's yours!". I handed it over and inside was a bunch of new and slightly used barrels, shrouds, parts, in SS and blue, and a blued frame that appeared to be brand new (In a box with vapor paper). After we left, I assembled a complete gun in my friend's truck while we ate at Burger King. I ended up selling a lot of the extra barrels and parts for a huge profit, and had the gun for about 20 years before I sold it when I needed money.

About six months ago a friend of mine told me that he had bought a .357 and didnt need his .38 spl any more and wondered if I wanted to look at it, of course I said yes. He pulled out a zippered soft case and took out a blued Ruger Service Six with a 4" barrel, it was in almost new condition, clean as a whistle and appeared to have been fired very few times if at all. I asked him what he wanted to get out of it and when he told me $150 I allmost had a heart attack!. Needless to say I drove like a crazy man to the ATM to get the money to purchase it from him. After I got it home and started looking at I realized that it was a Liberty marked revolver made in 1976 on top of being in mint condition. All though I've gotten some other good deals on firearms in my life, this one was my right time right place, couldnt quit grinning for a month purchase.:D

I've gotten several "good" deals but I guess the cheapest was a lee Enfield no. 4 with a cracked stock for $30.

Ruger Security Six SS 4" for 300 about a 18 months ago. With box.

Winchester 9422M in mint condition this past year for 600. That may not seem cheap to some, but considering you can't touch them for under 900 these days in shot-a-bunch condition, let's just say the hours' drive was plenty worth it. :)

Actual cost wise, I doubt I can compete, but in relative terms I got a great deal on my 4.2" Ruger RH. Retail price here is €1085. I got mine, new, for €620 as part of some bankruptcy stock from another store.

In the same store had been a GP100 I had planned on getting for €516 (Retailing at €890) from the same stock. That had been sold and I had been forced to go with the Redhawk. I am sooooo happy that I was pushed into that particular corner!! :D

Back in the day, it was a 1913 DWM Luger for $15.00. It was hanging on a nail in a grocery store in a certain area of Gainesville, FL. The owner would accept things in trade for groceries. (Obviously, this was prior to 1968.) After 50 years, I still have it.

He also had a Winchester 1873 for $30.00, but that was a lot of money in those days.:)

Not on par with some of those great deals posted...but i bought a S&W 66-4 with the hard to find 3" barrel, and wearing Spegal boot grips, for $450. Purchased it at a gun show from a private seller...i nearly knocked people over to get to him after spotting it in his hand. Thankfully, he didn't cave to the greedy lowballing dealers who had refused to give him what he was asking for it...the fools could have doubled their money that day.

About 1995 I bought a High Standard Sport King 22 and a Remington Nylon 66 , both excellent condition , for a C note. Guy was on his way to the pawn shop and I gently intervened.

Howdy

Used to be you could pick up a nice used K frame Smith for $200 or less. Those days are pretty well long gone, now that everybody and their brother knows what great guns the old Smiths were. I have not seen a used K frame for less than $400 for some time now.

This Model 10-5 is the best deal I ever got on a Smith. I bought it about ten years ago. The dealer wanted $125 for it. I had not bought a gun in a long, long time, did not know what a good price was, so I asked him if he could go any lower. Never hurts to ask. He got really ticked off and told me what a great price it was. So I bought it without another word. Turns out it was a great price.

This Model 19-3 and Model 17-3 cost $125 each when they were brand, spanky new in 1975. But that was with 1975 dollars.

These days if I see a great price on an old K frame or an old N frame Smith I grab them, whether I need them or not. You can never have too many Smiths.
