best CZ?

I am interested in getting a CZ, my budget is somewhere in the $700ish range. I have about $500 set aside as of now but don't mind waiting and saving for the right one. I would like to eventually get trigger work done on it so I want to make sure the base gun I buy would be a good candidate for future work from Cajun gun works. I am leaning towards the SP01 right now but also like the P09 and 75b omega. What are the advantages/disadvantages to each?

thanks!

The Omega system can't have much work done to it from what I hear. I have an 85B and eventually I'm going to get all the bells and whistles myself.

My personal favorite is the 75B D Compact. Perfect balance of size, weight, etc. The triggers tend to break in nice after a few hundred rounds. I prefer the decocker version myself. IMO a safety on a DA pistol is silly as is having to decocker a hammer with the trigger.

It depends on what you will use it for. If it's primarily a range/HD gun, I'd go with the SP-01. It's too heavy to carry comfortably, but it's an absurdly fun gun to shoot. The mass just soaks up recoil, as does the ergonomics.

For versatility, I'd go with a P-01 (mid-size, rail, accepts 75 mags, lots of aftermarket support) or the P-07 (less aftermarket, but it will accept full-size 75 mags and can switch from decocker to safety). I guess the P-01 Omega would give you the most options, but I don't think they've been imported yet.

Hmm, well I guess it depends on use.

For range or HD I would personally go with the 85 Combat or SP-01 Shadow (although I like the P-09 too). I also have a soft spot for the good 'ol 75B.

For CCW purposes, or just general use I do happen to really like the P-07. It has a nice trigger, good size (for ccw especially), and is pretty light weight.

My main gripe with the P-07 is the optional safety lever is just a bit too small for my tastes, as I like to carry cocked and locked. I'm hoping the new "convertable" Omega series will result in upgraded safety levers for the P-09/P-07 to become available.

I can't decide which of my CZ's I prefer; the CZ75 TS, or the SP-01 Shadow Target ll. Both are more expensive than what you mention, but show what those guns can be.

thanks for all the info!

I guess i needed to add that this gun is just for fun, its a range gun and possibly a bedside gun. I don't plan to carry it ever unless its OWB for competition use.

If you want trigger work on it later, I'd get a CZ75b SA. It's the single action only model, and is great for range and competition use. Usually retails for $500-550

If you have a $700 budget your best bet is to get a good old 75B. You can improve the trigger on it more than you can the newer Omega triggers on the P07/P09/P01 Omeg etc....

You can get the pistol for about $500 even less if you don't mind used LNIB and the send it for one of CGW in house packages. The Pro or Defense Carry would set you straight.

Or you could do a Pro Version P07 or P09 from CGW for about $775.

I personally think the 75B is a better gun.

Consider saving up a little more. I bought an SP01 Shadow SKU: 91154 from Oak Hills guns for $839 and it has an excellent trigger right out of the box. IMO it has other enhancements that make it very worthwhile plus comes with 3 magazines.

They are out of stock right now but they get them in from time to time.

Lighter recoil and main springs originating from original CZ 75 Specifications help to create a smoother more consistent action.
Safeties as found on the CZ 75 SA are fitted as standard; these provide a larger surface area for better positioning of the thumb.

Here is the latest one of my CZ's. It is a CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical. This one is in 40 s&w. A very accurate gun. So far I only changed the grips on this one.

Bedside/range, definitely SP-01 of some flavor.

My P01 is an 'all-round' gun. Range, competition, bedside, carry...does it all. Everyone that tries it, loves it.

My main gripe with the P-07 is the optional safety lever is just a bit too small for my tastes
Absolutely.

I had little to no trouble converting myself to the DA/SA discipline but the arthritis in my hands are starting to become a problem. I tried switching to the safety version and there's just no way for that to work for me. I have average size hands (maybe on the small side of average) and the safety position on these guns does not lend itself at all to easy operation for me.

I don't mind the decocker having to cause me to adjust my grip (it's a non-critical operation) slightly but the safety has to be in exactly the right place to use it. I've been hoping for an extended version but even then because of the way it pivots and the position on the firearm I'm not sure it will do enough for me. I guess I'm decocker or bust with these guns. Which is fine. As long as my hands cooperate.

I guess i needed to add that this gun is just for fun, its a range gun and possibly a bedside gun. I don't plan to carry it ever unless its OWB for competition use.

For all of this, some version of the SP-01. Fantastic gun! I prefer it over the standard 75B.

CZ

I've had my 75B for years, just picked up one that was test fired only(10 rounds) for less than half price:)..couldn't resist. Great weapon IMHO.

My vote 75B.
