As 3 gun said about the SP101:

If I could only have one pistol to be the best all around including CC, I'd go with a 3" Ruger SP101 in 357mag. Not to big or small, handles loads mild to wild and is SS.

I typically carry the 2.25" one but the 3" and 4" .22LR see occasional woods duty.

If you had to nail me down to the gun I carry the most though it would still be this one:

or perhaps this one:

Pocket carry is just so darn convenient............:o

What is best for me.............. is a Ruger P97

That's what I use for a truck gun.

Another Kel-Tec vote, but for the PF9, a 7+1 9x19mm pocket rocket. Slimmer than the P11, with a different lockwork that allows a lighter trigger (but no restrike).

In Alabama, with hot summers and mild winters, covering garments can be impractical, so I opted for pocket carry. I used to carry a J-frame, but one day I outshot myself with a Kahr. They were hard to find, but I did wind up with a Kel-Tec P11 for about half the price. When the PF9 came out and seemed to be debugged, I went with it, for the above reasons.

Icing on the cake is Kel-Tec's lifetime warranty. I recently replaced recoil springs on both my K-Ts, and they were sent to me at no charge! A while back, I had to replace two ejectors on my P11, and again K-T sent them at no charge! To the pistol's credit, it fired and cycled without a problem.

Taurus PT-145. 10 rounds of very controllable 45acp in 22 ounces. Great trigger and features which I can carry in my Thunderwear while wearing shorts and tee.

Anything with a short butt. Snubnose revolver or pocket Glock come to mind. You did ask "All around". No one gun fills every role perfectly. I realize both of these may be too big for pocket carry in many cases.

I like my little Kahr PM9, since:

1) It is in 9mm, a proven round, especially with the Federal LE 9mm 124 gr +P HST load.

2) I have incredible sights on it, that allow for extremely fast shot placement

3) But most of all, it is so small that I can just throw it in my High Noon Holsters "Pocket Grabber", and simply carry it in my pocket if I like.

So I can be sure of being able to take it just about anywhere.

sc xd or a sc glock. perfect size to conceal with just about anything your wear. fairly light, accurate and extremely reliable. big selection of holsters to accommodate how and where you wish to carry.

I have four handguns for ccw purposes to choose from depending on my state of attire (which corresponds directly to the climate and/or social circumstance I find myself in): a Ruger LCP (.380 ACP), a Colt Cobra (.38 Special), a Smith & Wesson Model 6906 (9mm Luger)and a SIG 220 Carry (.45 ACP). The one of these four that I'd nominate for the "best all around ccw" is the Smith 6906. Relatively light-weight and compact; relatively powerful; thirteen shot capacity and reliable as the day is long no matter what I feed it.

A CCW for everyone? Hard to beat a snubnose .38. At that, hard to beat a S&W Airweight snubnose .38. Light weight, easy to conceal, easy to operate and easy to maintain. It also has a good ballastic power level that everyone can learn to shoot.

I really don't like really small handguns.

If push comes to shove and I've got no other options, and I've got to go to my concealed handgun, I don't want that gun to be tiny and low capacity when I am in the fight of my (for my) life.

I routinely carry a SW 1006 in the winter here in upstate NY. I am currently carrying a SigP226 in 9x19mm for my summer time carry; I also use a Glock 19 when the P226 is just to large to conceal.

I've never heard of anyone who has been in a gun fight wishing they had a small gun or less capacity or less potent of a caliber...but the old maxim is true, the 32auto in your pocket is better than the 1911 in your gun safe at home...

The "Noisy Crickett" (hey the OP said "anything goes") :D

Seriously though, so far the beat all-around CCW I've had has been my SIG 229 (though a 239 might challenge it if I had one).

Walther PPS 9mm

The Walther PPS 9mm :D is a joy to conceal carry. It is thin, small, completely reliable, accurate and that great German fit and finish.

Taurus PT-145. 10 rounds of very controllable 45acp in 22 ounces. Great trigger and features which I can carry in my Thunderwear while wearing shorts and tee.

+1 to GeauxTide. I also enjoy using my PT145 for ccw.

The best CC gun greatly depends on the situation and scenarios that you have to face on a regular basis. For myself, I'd have to say my SA XD40 subcompact, with one in the pipe and nine in the clip(I also have 2 extended mags for it) and lightning fast tactical reloads I can most likely walk away alive due to superior fire power. With 34rds at my disposel and another 5 from my back-up peice I would think I'd come through fine.If not then I'm in the wrong fight.

For me its either the Taurus PT145 or PT745 both in .45acp and smaller than most 9mm's.They also have a manual saftey to carry condition 1.

If i had the money id definetly like to try out the Rohrburough 9mm.

I think this is a very subjective and loaded question
What works for me will not work for you
I am 6'3 and 200 lbs I can theoretically carry a 1911 for ccw
Hotdogs is like 5'8 and 150 lbs and may not be able to hide a 1911
Smaller guns like the lcp and lcr /seacamps do not fit my hands and as a result I can barely hit the broadside of a barn with them
I am sure Hotdogs has much smaller hands (I can palm a basketball well used to when I was younger) so he can carry and shoot a smaller gun then me
I can ccw a ruger p85 or a full size 1911 (not an easy feat for a smaller person in stature)
