best 9mm for a female.........

I agree with KSFreeman. A few weeks ago I took my fiancee to the range and she shot my CZ-75 PCR and my friend's modified 1911. She liked the 1911 better. She really liked the tuned trigger and the slimmer grips. The recoil bothered her for almost 2 rounds ;) After that, no problem.

Chalk up another vote for the Sig-Sauer P228. A great gun,
with perfect balance; this firearm will go toe-to-toe in the
accuracy department with it's big brother, the P226. A very
dear female friend of mine, actually shoot's my P228 quite
a bit better than her own Glock 19.:D I've never had as
much as a "burp" from my Sig P228; or my .45 caliber Sig
P220, for that matter. I would recommend a Sig "Classic"
P-series to anybody; looking for a quality CCW. :)

I second the SIG 239 or the 225. Both are single stack, have alloy frames, so they're light enough to carry easily, but heavy enough to soak up the recoil, and ergonomics are very good for folks with small-medium sized hands, You can also get a short trigger if you have really small hands. Have fun with your research.

I'll have to agree with KSFreeman. All of the weapons listed in this thread are good. Your best bet is to go to a gun show and handle a wide variety of weapons. Make note of the ones that feel the best and then try before you buy (if at all possible).

Also might look at the S&W 3913 Ladysmith. There are some used ones around, but the later the model the better.

already been there

I recentley went through all of this with Amy and she found that after a little practice the 1911 .45 wasnt that bad after all.

She did like the Walther P99 and the Beretta Vertec . She however didnt like the creep of a double action trigger , she has only shot M16 s and Shotguns (Army and Skeet Shoots) before and felt that a double action was too mushy.

I belive that a shooter should shoot whatever it is that they can shoot Confidentley ,Comfortably and Compententaly.

My girlfriend spent ours shooting range rentals , borrowed pistols and handeling many at Gunshows. She still hasnt completley dicided yet She is Shure she wants the 1911 but still isnt shure if she wants it in 9mm or .45.

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR QUEST

My wife has a medical condition which results in low hand strength and unusual sensitivity to recoil.

She liked my 9mm H&K USP so much that it's now HER H&K USP. She can work the slide and says that the recoil is less than any of my other 9mms.

Good shooting,

John

I would probably go with a Glock 19 first in terms of recoil and ease of maintenence. Browing high power second. Either would be an excellent choice for a female.

I'll throw out an oddball

a similar answer to the 1911 9x19 would be the star model b or super b. These could be had for under 200 awhile back, are very heavy/soft shooters. They have the eronomics of the 1911, although the main spring housing is fixed as an arch. They don't have the grip safety. It is SA only and the triggers are pretty good. The action is VERY easy to work. (This is easy to overlook, and may not affect your wife, but I'd make sure she can do this with ease on whatever you decide on).

It's relatively obscure which can be good and bad.

Drawbacks... parts are hard to come by, dry firing is a no-no, resale might be hard if she doesn't like it, probly no way to "test drive" one as they are relatively rare,

I know you've ruled it out, but... Beretta 92 fs. :P

Seriously, my sometime gf/continuing shooting partner is 5'3'' with very small hands. I bought her a Glock 19 sometime ago, which became mine as she was not comfortable with it, and couldn't reach the mag release or slide release with her thumb.
Ditto the H&K USP, she liked shooting it but had to break her grip to work the safety. On Friday I went to buy her an air rifle but got bounced, as she didn't have the correct category of licence so we looked at pistols instead. with the Beretta she could work the mag release and safety without breaking her grip. So I bought it.
We'll actually shoot it in around 5 weeks when the paperwork comes through.

You like the Beretta so perhaps try their single stack concealed model, or the new vertec frame.

My lowest recoiling 9mm is my 1911-A1 but some would complain about the weight. However it is just that weight that helps keep the recoil down.

The witness compact, or (probably better quality) the CZ compact, offer massive recoil reduction. I think its a combination of weight and design. Everyone (especially women) who has tried my wifes witness loves it.

I know, Tanfoglio has a checkered rep, I'm just commenting on the design, so lets not start.

which ever one you shoot best. Try out a few different guns and see which one you like. I have a SIG 225 and my girlfriend finds it confortable to shoot.

Women shoot the 1911 in .45 ACP very well. With a single-stack with the short trigger and maybe with a flat mainspring housing, a woman can hold the gun right. I know this is true with the Colt, anyway. My experience has been that once they try a 1911 .45, they prefer it. And they like the mean look of a black 1911...although the steel gun is a little heavy, as was mentioned. adk
