best 9mm for a female.........

Go to a gun show (screaming, yelling) and handle a bunch of different weapons. Find out what feels best. The go to a rental range and try it before you buy or borrow from a buddy.

Why a 9mm? Do you have to have one to be compat with hubby or BF? My GFs regularly shoot my 1911s in .45 after a little instruction. They like the narrower grip and easier trigger. However, one of the current ones likes the Kahr P9 as well.

Knowledge is power; training, not the magic sword, is the key. You just have to be smarter than the pistol (this is difficult for me sometimes).:D

Kinda depends on the female...

But I would suggest a Browning HiPower or a Kahr K9. Both fit good in smaller than average hands and have very mild recoil.

The BHP is a good recommendation. The CZ 75B Compact series is also quite good. Both of these are bigger than Kahrs, which are meant to be mighty small.

For smaller hands & less perceived recoil, I normally suggest the P7M8 and for those on a budget, a Baby Eagle.

It depends what type of recoil you prefer. Most people perceive guns that have more muzzle flip (upward recoil) to have less recoil than a gun that moves straight back. I prefer low muzzle flip because it allows for faster follow up shots. The HK P7M8 has the lowest muzzle flip out of all of the 9mms that I have shot.

Best 9mm

Thats an easy one, Expensive and worth every dollar, the HK P7M8 is the one of the worlds finest 9mm's and probably about the best choice there is for a female or anyone else for that matter.
A Kahr ,a Sig P 239 or even a Glock 19 or 26 would be good choices and in a slightly larger gun,I'd highly recommend a Walther P 99 or an older P 5 Compact.

CZ-75SA

I like low recoiling 9mm guns, and I have small hands (not much bigger than my wife's hands) - so maybe you'd like the same guns my wife and I like?
The CZ-75SA is the softest recoiling 9mm I've shot, and my wife liked it best among the 9's she's shot. If you put a pair of wood grips on it, the grip size is comfortable for smaller hands. It is basically the same size as the Beretta, but not as "chunky" feeling, and IMO, a lot softer shooting.

I've got a CZ-75 PCR and a Browning HiPower, and in terms of felt recoil, I'd rate them from lowest to highest as CZ-75SA, BHP and then CZ-75PCR. But the PCR is already a very comfortable gun to shoot. The BHP has the smallest grip and would be the most comfortable for shooters with small hands - I'd say the grips, from smallest to largest would be BHP, CZ-75PCR and then CZ-75SA. The PCR and the BHP are very, very close in size, but the BHP is a flatter gun, and has a short trigger pull. The steel framed CZ compacts may be a good compromise, but for the money, I'd rather have the CZ-75SA and put narrow grips on them.

I would not recommend a Sig P239 for low recoil - while it is one of the best made guns you can buy, it is fairly light and has a high bore axis, giving it (in my experience) a fairly sharp muzzle flip.

My recommendation is to find the largest/heaviest gun with the smallest grip. If you dislike recoil stay away from small, light guns (like polymer or alloy compacts).

You could also look into one of the 9mm 1911's, a single stack 1911 has a nice grip for smaller hands, and is a heavy gun for a 9mm. If you had a lot of money laying around, one of those long slide STI 1911's look really sweet.

depending on hand size the sig 229 or 239 are great...the 239 is a bit smaller and thinner, being only a single stack which would be a good choice if you don't mind the reduced magazine capacity

the best 9mm <or other> for a female is the one that she feels comfortable with and shoots well. take her to a range that rents firearms and let her try out a whole bunch of them until she finds the one that she likes. there are plenty of small framed 9s out there or just about any other caliber for that matter. let her try each one and find which is best for her.
