Beretta 92FS Will NOT Rack

If the store gave the OP a new pistol after transferring the old one to him, they would lose money since when the gun came back from Beretta, they could not sell it as new since the gun already had been owned by the OP, regardless of whether he fired a shot. And Beretta sure wouldn't compensate him the difference

To expect a store owner to take a hit on something that is not their fault (and in my opinion was the fault of the OP for not checking the gun before the deal was done, and then for not taking the good advice here which would have almost certainly fixed the issue) is ludicrous. In EVERY gun buy I have done, as the clerk is filling out paperwork I am inspecting that weapon, for function and finish.

Does the OP even know if they swapped slides or if they just went into the back and did what he should have done and fixed the gun? My Beretta slide has no serial number. Maybe just placate an unreasonable customer.

And the TV analogy is a dumb one. Guns are not TV's. Would the OP expect a brand new car rather than have the dealer fix his if something broke the day after he bought it?

As for cost for sending it back, Beretta does have a crap warranty. Only 1 year to original owner and you have to pay to ship it? S&W and Ruger will pay shipping both ways, even if you bought the gun used. And the warranty is for life. I've sent back quite a few revolvers to S&W that I bought used. Just for a once over. Free of charge on a used 25 year old gun. Ruger sent me two free magazines for my 10/22 that I admitted to them that I screwed up. Got them in less than a week. A friend of mine sent in a 30 year old blued revolver for some issue. They called and asked him if he would like it reblued while it was there since it had a lot of finish issues. He asked how much. They said "no charge". Gun came back like new AND in a new plastic Ruger box.

I love my Beretta, but their warranty and service royally sucks. Thankfully , the 92 is such a quality firearm that I have never needed to use their warranty.

This is one of the main reasons for what some are calling a condescending attitude in some of the previous posts. Probably much more educational than condescending because it is obvious the OP, or those calling the comments condescending aren't as familiar with guns, gun shops, and the process as those trying to explain that the shop was actually trying to do him a favor.
I agree that what was most likely done, after seemingly being shocked, " their jaw dropped" at seeing that the slide would no rack, was they took it to the back, cleared the easy to fix problem, and told him it was a slide off another gun. Probably hoping to never see him in the shop again.
