Backstreets Pub & Deli in Clemson, SC puts up anti-concealed-carry sign....

... and calls lawful concealed carriers "losers" and "douchebags".

They are getting absolutely hammered on Yelp, TripAdvisor, and so on...

AND SHARE THIS PLEASE on social media and elsewhere with all your gunny friends.

P.S. I put this here rather than in the "Legal" section because I thought it was a bit closer to general anti-gun nonsense (& boycott) than to an actual legal issue. Hope it's in the right place.

Sadly, but not surprisingly, the self-described pro-gun/2A folks are taking yet another opportunity to show themselves to be every bit of the stereotypical thoughtless, juvenile, hot-heads that might lead someone to consider banning them from the establishment in the first place.

Yeah...

How about NOT calling for people to pile on if they have never been to the establishment?

Their policy is wrong headed, but if you've never been there, then it's not a review.

It's pretty evident that the owner is feeling the heat.

The picture of the extended middle finger "review" on Backstreet is EXACTLY the kind of crap that gunowners don't need to "help" our case.

Most but not all.

Regardless, it seems to be "working", in that the guy is packpeddling. Frankly, as long as these pro-violence people are squashed like a bug, I don't care. Although admittedly, the calm, rational approach is preferred.

I care very much what methods are employed.

The calm, rational method is not only preferred, it should be the ONLY acceptable method under any normal circumstance.

Calling him "pro-violence" is as silly as him labeling gun owners with the names he's used.

Do you know what the crime rates are in that area? Clemson has had 5 or 6 murders and 60-some robberies in the last 14 years. There's hardly any violence there.

I know a lot of folks who don't understand why I carry a gun and think it's more than a little paranoid. That doesn't make them "pro-violence", any more than their opinion makes me "paranoid".

Civility and restraint go a long, long way in this world. At the very least, if we are civilized it makes him look like the bad guy. When we are not, it makes him look right and justified.

Well, you couldn't be more wrong, in my opinion. Of course he's pro-violence. He's advocating for circumstances which will increase violence, not decrease it. That makes him pro-violence..if unintentionally.

As far as "piling on" or not. I guess y'all have your opinion and I and many others like me have ours, and perhaps never the twain shall meet. I dunno. I think piling on is precisely what needs to be done.

All's fair in love, war, and preservation of civil rights... no? :)

Although I hate to see this kind of stuff the bottom line is this is his establishment and thus his rules.
He has the right to refuse service.

This is a point that is often forgotten and when we forget we make comments that are truly unfair and unjust.

This is still a semi free society where we have rights although shrinking; the right to refuse service has not be taken from business owners - yet.

He has a right to his option and views just like we do.

To argue is to only stoop to the uneducated level.
To call names is just childish.

Often when arguing with a fool you will find yourself foolish!

Are we not the least concerned about honesty? How is it ok for people to leave reviews about the food, management or attitudes when they have never set foot in the state, say nothing of the establishment?

How does it help gun rights when the pro-gun folks look like barely literate neanderthals who can't express on opinion without vulgarity and insults? Profanity is an empty mind attempting to express itself.

Folks want to protest, boycott, picket? SUPER! Have at it. Do it peacefully and eloquently. Being exactly the stereotype he's trying to create is quite the opposite of beneficial.

Is this place affiliated with the former Backstreet Atlanta location? Those folks could also be a little testy at times.

Either way we should conduct our debates in a rational, polite and honest manner. If folks don’t like this guy’s policies than simply eat somewhere else I hear The Esso Club is pretty good.

I think the name calling is what made people upset. He has every right to "ban" firearms in his place of business. That said...the place is a dive according to people that have actually been there. We aren't missing much by not going there.

There is a chance that I might have gone there one Saturday during a football game weekend.

I'm with Brian and Mike on this one.

There was a big blowup about it on Facebook yesterday, and everyone ran off in a fit of righteous indignation to write "reviews" of an establishment they'd never frequented. It makes us look like an angry, unreasonable mob.

And yes, that matters.

Furthermore, where are all these hotheads when we need people to be writing their legislators? Nope. Nowhere to be seen. Don't have the time.

It's a self-defeating caricature, really.

(Oddly enough, their Google Maps listing shows them as "permanently closed." Is that true, or did he just do that to pull the listing?)

The issue here is the choice of words used. How about...

"No Concealed Weapons, Please. We Appreciate Your Respect for Our Establishment."

"Well, you couldn't be more wrong, in my opinion. Of course he's pro-violence."

Yeah... No.

That's an incredible fallacy.

That's like saying that someone who is anti-death penalty is pro murder.

"As far as "piling on" or not. I guess y'all have your opinion and I and many others like me have ours, and perhaps never the twain shall meet. I dunno. I think piling on is precisely what needs to be done."

And I have absolutely no doubt that it will be done by people who should know better, and whose words and actions in their "reviews" will serve only to make gun owners look really bad.

We can't stop that.

But we can stop people from using The Firing Line as a rallying point to post what are in many cases are likely lies regarding the "service" they had during their "visit."

TFL will NOT, under any circumstances, be used to foster that kind of activity.

I don't know about the rest of staff, but as far as I'm concerned, any TFL member who does, does so in full peril of losing permanently his TFL membership.

Agree.

And as has been said, we need to mind our choice of words and actions lest we look just as foolish as those spouting ignorant rants against us.

Good for the restaurant for having an opinion and doing something about it.

And good for the people who decide to not patronize that restaurant because they disagree with that opinion.

All the rest is just internet noise, ones and zeros that don't do anything. Well except give free advertising.

Namecalling? I thought that was his signature.

By Unlicensed Dremel;
Regardless, it seems to be "working", in that the guy is packpeddling.

If I understand you correctly then I very much disagree. I think you might drive this owner to avoid the subject although I doubt he will change his policy. But that is his right and I would much rather him, and all of us, have that right then to deny it to him because he exercises it differently then I would.

How can you claim to value one right while trampling another?

By driving this guy to "packpeddle" if that is what he is doing, how many do you alienate? Ten? Two Hundred?

The problem with using the power of the internet to intimidate someone is that millions can become aware of your actions against an individual and that sounds counterproductive to me.

I think that if you want this guy to respect our rights you are going to have to show him you respect his as well, even if, no, specially if his beliefs differ from yours.

That's my take on it.

I would never post a negative review, in fact I don't post reviews of any kind. I read alot and read many book reviews before I download a new book on Kindle. Most reviews are biased in one way or another and if you learn to read them looking for bias the negative ones become most helpful. When everyone says great book it's usually not. When somone hates it that shows the power of words and makes it worthwhile, not always but often.

What I am getting at here is all those negative reviews reflect hurt feelings, not bad food. It looks silly on our part. Just don't go there, that's enough.

Bio called it:
i like how he made sure to sign his name at the end of his sign
Guess he has a low self esteem problem.

I expect a truce document to be proffered shortly as his reviews are well below the toilet. :D
