Yes I am,
My sweat and the blood, sweat and tears of my ancestors built this paradise that others now try to cut in on and take away from my desendants.
I respectfully disagree. I don't believe that people are responsible for the sins of their fathers, and likewise I don't believe that people are worth more for the virtues of their fathers. That's not something that can be resolved through internet debate, it's a fundamental difference in the axioms that we base our opinions on.
My wife rates it because she dutifully jumped through all of those red taped hoops while being treated like barely human gutter trash by people who couldn't hold a job at White Castle, all for the privilage of paying for doing what these people are trying to for free.
I respect the your wife and the trial's that she has gone through, even though, as a matter of belief, I don't think that her life is worth more than those of others with less strength or dedication.
BCannell, I am also glad you are not a representative of the state you reside in. Especially mine!
Fair enough. Just speaking my mind.
ARE YOU SURE you are not a member of the MEXICAN GOVERNMENT?
Reasonably sure. But there is that two year block of time that I can't remember in which I may have been dragged into Mexico by the Mexican government, brainwashed, and returned to America to secretly do their bidding. So your guess is as good as mine!
The Mexican governments OFFICIAL POLICY is that MEXICAN CITIZENS SHOULD HAVE COMPLETE ACCESS TO ALL OUR RICHES. They say we should have 'OPEN BORDERS', meaning that Mexican citizens should have access to all AMERICAN benefits, just like US CITIZENS. If that's the case, then Vincente Fox should apply to have Mexico become the 51st state. Of course, he would have to step down as El Presidente, AFTER Congress, the Senate and 3/4 of the states agreed and OUR PRESIDENT signs off on all this.
SO, ARE you a member of the Mexican government? No? You should be, because that's what you are proposing.
That's not really what I'm proposing. I'm proposing that emergency services not be withheld from non-citizens. I never said anything about welfare or other state and federal benefits. Truth be told, I believe that we should have open immigration, much like the first century or so of the nations history. But that would mean that immigrants would become American citizens and, hence, no longer Mexican citizens. I believe a lot of things, but what I'm discussing here is about emergency services only (and, specifically, emergency services for children).
And in the case of the children of illegal immigrants, their parents have taken a series of actions to get those children to a place where "the closest hospital" is one of ours.
This is true. Of course, it isn't the children's fault. I see your points, but I still feel that we should provide care for immigrant children, even if it is immoral and unethical for their parents to have put us in the position to do so.
BTW, thanks for the links on brood parasitism. I've heard of it, but it's always nice to know more.
You asked about 444: I've never met him, but IIRC, he's a firefighter and paramedic who helps these folks every day, because it's his job and because it's his nature. He has data that most people don't have, and it strikes me as condescending to lecture him on that topic.
That makes sense, I suppose. Forgive me if I don't know much about the people here; as you can see from my postcount, I'm new.
The use of "children" is one of the chief cornerstones of liberal argument. It serves three purposes: 1) it is dramatic and 2) it places the other party on the defensive. Afterall, no one wants to be accused of advocating the harming of children. 3) This places a chink in your armor: you are forced to admit that you don't want to harm children, so now you have agreed to half their agenda: divide and conquer.
The use of children to further a liberal agenda is disgusting. The use of children to steal my money against my will (which is what stealing is) is even more disgusting.
You're going to have to trust me when I say that I really do care about what happens to other people, children included.
My question is this: Is it ok to allow adults to suffer or possibly die ? Are children's lives more important than any other life ?
No, of course not, but I'd be much harder pressed to argue that people who are illegally in the United States by their own choice are as deserving of medical care than I am to argue the same for people who are here involuntarily. Pick your battles, you know.
Whose fault is this whole situation ? The people who came to this country illegally ? The government of the country they come from ? One thing you can be sure of: it isn't my fault.
I generally try not to think of things in terms of whose fault it is. That mentally leads to a society filled with people who sue when they stub their toe.
BUT, I am the one that is going to pay the price for it. Not the people that did it. ME. It is appearently my obligation to clean up other people's messes. If they act in an irresponsible manner, that is OK because I will bail them out. If I do the same thing, who bails me out ? No one. It is my role in life to give, never recieve.
As far as I know, if you are unable to pay for your children's medical care, the state will still end up footing the bill. So yes, someone will bail you out. The rest of the community.
So you say that my opinion does count. I have the right to vote on issues such as this. Thanks, that is big of you. Now let me break the bad news to you. The people of Arizona did vote on it, and your side lost.
Democracy works! That means that I get to keep arguing my side and voicing my opinion, and if I convince enough people, maybe things will change.
Whew! Long post.
