Are You Voting Republican Or Third Party This Year?

TaipeiPersonality,

Thanks for responding to my article. This thread has generated a lot of discussion. That is good, for this is an issue of great importance. Until the masses of the 'great unwashed' get themselves out of the rut of voting Democrat or Republican, just because that is the way things have always been, the status quo will remain. About those that keep whining about third parties stealing votes, no politician, no party, and no one is entitled to votes. You earn them. George Bush, in 1992 lost that election all on his own. It was not due to Perot or his voters. The onus needs to be put onto the candidate himself. His blunder of "Read my lips" sunk his arse when he backed out of that promise. His granting MFN to China didn't help either. Truth is, George HW Bush is a typical northeastern patrician Republican elitist who had no connection with the ordinary masses, and treated his constituency typical of an elitist - like they were mere peasants without minds of their own.

Democrats think the same way. Gore whines that Nadar took away his votes in Florida and a few other swing states. No, not so. They were not 'his' votes in the first place. He was not entitled to those votes - and truth be told, the 'wooden politician' didn't earn enough votes to win. Hell, he couldn't even carry his own state of Tennessee. Not to carry your own state is usually a harbinger of political death, it always has been, even Mondale carried his own state when crushed by Reagan in 84. Gore, Bush, and all the others have only to look inward for the source of their defeats.
