Are shooters their own worst enemies?

Pretty much, yes. Always have been, always will be.

Idiots exist in ever vocation and avocation.

Years and years ago a guy was expelled from the sportsmen's club to which I belonged at the time.

The ass decided to pattern his shotgun.

On the side of the jiffyjohn.

Fortunately another group saw him and reported it.

He was stripped of his membership, the owner of the jiffyjohn hit him up for damages, and his name was circulated to every sportsmen's association in a hundred or so mile radius so that he would be blacklisted.

I find the fact you were willing to take the time and trouble to avail such facilities to others to promote the pursuit we all love here a laudable thing.

Having said that I am, sadly, not remotely surprised that some then abuse that generosity. Dismayed, but not surprised.

I regrettably agree with what others have said: save the effort and expense you have invested for yourself, and those you know and trust but don't then trust the ones they might trust.

Once bitten, twice shy.

I think I have the situation in hand...at least for the present. I'm sure another problem will rear it's ugly head eventually, but I'll cross that road when I come to it. I have some good friends that use the range and they respect the property. The guy causing the problems is a friend as well, and I approached him with the problem....and told him I did not want the actual owner of the property to see it in that condition. He agreed and I think the range should be okay for the near future at least.
The owner of the property leaves all matters concerning such things to me, and rarely even sets foot on the property. I will continue enjoying fishing, hunting and shooting on the property and monitor the activity on the range. I limit hunting and fishing on the property to a select few as I know how fast that can get out of hand...and they are only allowed to use the property when I can monitor their activities. The range has a separate gate and is located away from the fishing and hunting areas.
