Glock: even the name sounds UGLY

"Glock" .....the sound one makes when expectorating a big loogy on the sidewalk.

The guns look like they were cloned, grown in some sort of hydroponic garden and hatched.

Go to the revolver forum to see what a REAL gun looks like.

Just kidding of course......all in jest.......yeh, if I had $500 to burn, I'd go right out and buy one of those single stack mod 36's in .45 ACP. That sucker fits right in the pocket and is well-"melted" for a factory gun.

Glock's are the very definition of "ugly gun!" They aren't the ugliest gun but they are the standard by which all the other ugly guns are judged. ie: "It's uglier than a Glock." or "It's ugly but it's still no Glock!"

OTOH making a gun prettier can also make it less functional. Look at almost any gun with 75%+ engraving. Most people with these "pretty" guns won't even handle them much less actually shoot them! I've seen some pretty useless pretty guns!

Besides, if you're buying guns just to look at... ;)

To me, Glocks are not the most beautiful thing. However, I do like the way they look. I don't think they're "ugly guns" especially as far as "ugly guns" go. They have a very simple but aggressive, "get to the point" type of look, its almost a futuristic appearance.

LEOs all over the place have Glocks as standard issue. Just that much says something about its performance. I guess it would be one of those relationships where after you use it, it performs well, you begin to like it more and you'd began to see its beauty later.

A memorable statement.
"...lose that nickel-plated sissy pistol and get yourself a Glock!" - Does anyone know who said it?

Know what? I have a good friend over here in TFL. Firstly, he don't like glock but now he love so much, coz it made him a champ in IDPA in our local competion which his 9mm 1911 did not let him earned.

To Glock Mania, I just want to ask why some gun shop has that warning that "don't feed your Glock with Teflon bullets".

The more this tupperware is criticized the more it is likened.:)

Glock reminds me of the Generic brand fad of the 80's. You know white cans with "beer" stenciled on them.

I don't prefer Glocks. (Had an early one and wasn't impressed)

Now I think the Beretta's a nice looking guns. I don't prefer them either. (too big for what they do)

The 1911, minus the beavertail, minus the front serrations, etc. etc. etc. Just a nice Royal Blue Pre 70's national match with some high end rosewood grips. THAT"S BEAUTIFUL!!!

I think they are good looking guns. Kinda in a woman with no makeup kinda way. My dad on the other hand things they are ugly as hell, but he is a 92-F guy.

Tommy Lee Jones in The Fugitive?

I'm partial to the 1911's. There aren't many polymer frames out there I care for.

By the by, what was that chrome plated sissy gun anyway? It's been a while. was it a CZ?

Rupestris, you were close.

It was Tommy Lee Jones as Sam Gerard in U.S. Marshal. :) I'm not really sure what it was. I think Robert Downey Jr. said it was a .45 though. It seemed big too.

Thats right...

I keep getting the two confused. I do remember Downey's being full sized. I just can't remember the make.

I think I caused this thing to get off topic. No disrespect.

Maybe I'll watch the movie again soon. I'm sorry. Its my fault. To get this thing back on topic. In the end, Downey ended up shooting and getting shot with a Glock .40:) A gun thats thought to be "ugly" but is proven in performance.

When I sit my 36 next to my Kimber Custom CDP...there is an obvious "bells and whistles" difference. But you have to appreciate the ultilitarian look of the Glock....it's just as pretty as my Kimber....Kinda like wife pretty vs. centerfold pretty...you'd take em both.

I hope your wife isn't reading this, 11B! :D

If I compared my fiancee to my Glock 21, she'd probably wind up shooting me with it!

Semper Fi!

You know! If I really look at my Glock and compare it with my wife's Taurus, yes my Glock is ugly and MEAN but I like it and it 's my carry piece of almost everyday :p .

Butt-ugly.

This is purely subjective, of course. I REALLY LIKE my G-32. Absolutely a great gun. One of my best.

But it lacks shiny blued steel and polished walnut. No gun can be truly pretty with absolutely no wood on it anywhere. And the shiny blued finish on my twenties-era Colt 1903 is to DIE for. It makes the other guns jealous. Once, I found the Glock had backed it into a corner of the safe, and was bullying it, trying to make it cry and surrender it's lunch money.

I let the Mountain Gun kick the Glock's butt, made it sit in the corner with the cleaning supplies for a whole month, and went to the range TWICE without it. Needless to say, it's been on good manners ever since.

You just can't let these things get out of hand, otherwise your safe will erupt in war. I sometimes wish my guns would just grow up.

Wait a minute. You mean OTHER people are going to read this? Uh oh... :o

In their own way, yes. Kind of like a Porsche 930 Turbo; it won't win many beauty contests, but its performance makes it sexy enough to trump its competitors.

BTW-the gun Downey Jr. had was a Taurus PT-92.

Glocks will look cool if you change the slide, slide lock lever & magazine release to stainless steel. Adds more pimp factor. lol :D
