AR build

Here's what I got so far. I'm going to list what I think would be ideal to buy for this build and put the price to show where I'm at.
BCM standard 16" upper (400)
BCM charging handle (22)
Magpul forhandle/grip (30)
Magpul Buttstock (93)
As for right now, that puts me at $545. Would like to keep it around $1k while getting the best I can. The lower receiver seems to be that harder part to figure out. Do I go stripped, or complete? Since I want to put a 2 stage trigger in (RRA) It would seem like stripped? Also, I want to make the pistol grip a magpul dark earth grip. (I like the dark earth look :D )
Well anyways, I've never done this before, but I feel like I have a decent start. What advise do you have on the lower? I want this to be a very dependable gun, but, I don't know how much the lower comes into play with this. Let me know what you think
Thanks!!!!!!

LMT is my favorite complete lower and they do come with 2 stage trigger. The SOPMOD is a nice stock too.

Where do I find the lowers online? I can find complete lowers, and tigger kits, but cannot seem to find the outside part of the lower If i were to assemble it all myself.

The actual lower reciever that you put the parts in is what is considered to be the ACTUAL firearm. You will have to register it or whatever as if you were buying a complete rifle.

Your best bet is to pick one up at a gunshow or a local gun store. You will do the paperwork there and the everything else can be purchased online and shipped to your house.

If you buy the lower recever online it will have to be shipped to an FFL anyway (like your local gun store).

CMMG makes a good lower, I have two and no problems. Have better results with their LPK than DMPS though. As for a two-stage trigger, couldn't you order it separately?

Well what im saying is if I were to get a two stage trigger, it would make sense for me to build the lower so I don't have 2 triggers laying around/ spend more on parts then is necessary

Yes, you can buy a lower parts kit minus trigger and then get the trigger you want. A stock trigger isn't something that would be easy to sell if you just had it laying around, everyone that owns an AR likely has at least one. Or you could go with this: http://www.surplusammo.com/rock-riv...ver-parts-kit-with-2-stage-trigger-for-ar-15/ That is a pretty sweet trigger. In fact I have a complete RRA lower with 2 stage NM trigger listed under the guns for sale section, if you are interested send me a pm.

Leafy - whether you know it or not, you're helping a bunch of people out there. I'm not at the exact stage you are but probably a couple steps behind. All this AR building conversation is helping me tremendously because of how confusing all this gets. I have a back up plan but I keep hearing about how building your own is the smartest way to go. So... Thanks!

Regarding function and reliavilty the upper is really all that matters. All lowers are essentially the same within the constraints of mil-spec or commercial buffer tubes. But you can put any AR15 lower on your BCM upper. Doesn't really matter. I have two BCM uppers one on a BCM4 lower and one on a LMT defender lower. Really no difference in the two except the way I have them set up and the manufacture logo. Are you going for a two stage for some precision work? If so geissele triggers are the best IMO. I have the SSA-E on my LMT lower to go with my mk12. I've used a RRA and it doesn't compare. Its not bad for a factory 2 stage but nowhere near the quality of a geissele. I also like the first stage on the geissele because its not exaggerated like all the other two stages I've used. Its brief so if you needed to shoot fast or treat it as a single stage you can.

If this is your first AR I promise you'll eventually want another one so spare parts will cone in handy. Lowers are simple to build there are videos on youtube showing how its done. But you'll end up using the parts again.

Thanks black ops and sloppy
Chili, im glad I could help. I know there a:Dre plenty of threads on this but needed to ap more specific questions.:D..
So correct im if im wrong, but I can just go to my lgs and pick up a cheap stripped lower, whether it be dpms, bushy, or armalite, and it will be fine? Also if I were to get a rra or giesle trigger kit, what else is needed? I plan or ordering my butt stock and grip from bcm.com, as im goinrg for the dark earth look:D

Sorry about the bad grammar, or random letters inserted here and there. Im on my smart phone and writing long texts is a pain in the @$$

Yes you can go get a stripped lower with your desired logo and it will be fine. You will need a LPK, buffer tube assembly, buffer, and what ever trigger you want. The trigger comes with the two pins that hold it in place. That should be it. Maybe a castle nut if the buffer tube assembly doesn't come with it.

Maybe a castle nut if the buffer tube assembly doesn't come with it.
That will depend on whether you use a rifle stock or a carbine (collapsible) stock. Rifle stock doesn't use a castle nut, carbine does.

If BCM uppers don't come with a BCG, it seems like it would be cheaper to build your upper yourself. That way you don't end up with hand guards and stuff you don't want. I somehow ended up with 3 pairs of hand guards and you can't seem give them away. I put a BCM Bolt carrier and gas key in the 6.8SPC I just finished building. I used PSA upper and lower receiver, Stag bolt (came with the barrel, BCM carrier, gas key, charging handle.

He stated he had picked out a magpul stock and this is a carbine build so i assume it wont be a the A2 rifle stock or a PRS.

The bcm upper doesn't come with a handguard. So its np problem. Just got back from the lgs. Stripped rra lower cost about 130. How much should I be spending on the lower?

My LGS was selling complete RRA lowers for $260 with a cheap stock, $400 with a Magpul CTR and RRA 2 stage.
