Anyone regularly carry a military surplus gun?

All of my handguns are milsurps, and yes I do carry them. My rotation pistols:
Star Super A loaded with 9x23 Winchester PowrBall, Colt Sistema 45 ACP, CZ-82, Yugo Tok converted to fire 9x23 Winchester, and an Argy FM-90 Hi-Power. I definitely do not feel undergunned.

In the summer I usually carry an old FEG .32 that was

Hungarian police issue. It works every time, and I like that it was engineered for heavy use. I have never had any problems with it. I used to carry a Spanish police pistol, a Star BM, and several former police revolvers and found the same to be true for all of them.

I like that it was engineered for heavy use.
I think you are talking about the AP9. While I agree that the AP9 (and its variants that carry different model numbers) is a nice gun, I wouldn't call it engineered for heavy use. It has an aluminum frame that is known for not holding up to a high round count.

On occasion, I have been known to carry my German occupied Italian made 1934 blank slide Beretta. I trust this pistol as I do my 1911's, never a FTF or FTE with this one.

I have carried a Romanian TTC tokarev for a month now and I really like it. It shoots straight and is very simple to work on. I just got done Durabaking the slide today.

While I pack either a Glock 26 or Smith J I can say there are a few ex-military guns I'd feel totaly fine staking my life on.

1. Makarov's in 9x18. I have a pair and they are excellent.

2. SIG P6 9x19. Excellent to. If its an older one that don't feed JHPs well, then use powerball or Federals EFMJ.

3. Argentina FM High Powers. Like the P6, there are options if it don't feed JHPs well.

4. CZ 82 in 9x18. Like the Mak they work very well.

5. 1917 Colt or Smith .45 ACPs. BIG but they work!!!

Most WW1 or WW2 guns, excepting the 1917s. I'd just pick up. But such as 1911s or Beretta 34s can be used. The Enfield and Webbly, at lest in .38 S&W, are awfully weak as a defensive gun in power. .455 is ok but a very slow round. And the P35 Random is, well, an awful big 9mm!

6. P64. Yea once you get past the super hard DA pull, it's a nice little pocket pistol and would work.

7. P83. Yes I've seen the Polish P83 and handled them but never shot one. But it handles very well! I'd say it should do.

8. Astra 400/600. Yes it wil work but I dunno about JHPs at all! I'd change the springs in it, like in any WW2 gun, before I'd pack it.

9. Star B 9mm. These 1911 style pistols work very well if you can find one! But probably feeds only FMJ.

There are others but these above I have mostly shot and owned, except the P83.

Milsurp carry guns

Have been known to carry on occasion, a Romanian TTC because the thing is just so damned FLAT and hits clean out too 100yds! Also a Markarov because it's just a nice little pop-gun.:)
These days I would carry the HK P7 German police turn in that I picked up a couple of years ago, it's phenominally accurate, reliable as the day is long, and just scary on how it points!
Just because there used or surplus doesn't mean they still can't do the job they were built for!

Russian Makarov is with me everyday :)
Because i trust it-------

I've carried this Remington Rand .45 ACP 1911A1 for 20 yrs or so...mostly for woods loafing and very occasionally as a self defense weapon. For the most part, I use a self-made Tom Threepersons belt holster for either purpose.

For a military side arm, it shoots extremely well...and likes most any 200 gr TWC with 5.5 gr of Win 231 or HP-38...either will print sub 2" gps at 25 yds, from Keith's old Long Range position, on demand....

Best regards, Rodfac

Well not since I retired from the service, but I was issued an S&W 38spcl Combat Masterpeice with a 4 inch barrell. I would have no qualms about carrying one of those regularly. It's a beautiful gun.

I carry a Colt Officer's model now. Us old guys can't get the 45acp out of our blood. :D

6. P64. Yea once you get past the super hard DA pull, it's a nice little pocket pistol and would work.

Replace that factory spring with a 17lb or 18lb Wolf spring and the trigger will be as nice and smooth as any gun you could ever want.

While too big to conceal, I do have a CZ 52 that rides in the truck with me and resides in my headboard shelf at nght. Damn good shooter, and tough.

When I had the need to carry for some time (thankfully now the odds are so low to need a weapon that I can leave it at home) I carried in my pocket the pistol that Elvis Presely called "remote control"... (the same model, not the same gun).

K.

Guess what pistol
