Anyone looking forward to hunting season?

I didn't put in for deer. I will see if there are any over the counter tags left for the desert here in California. Some big bucks show up from time to time. Not often but enough to keep me interested. What I am really looking forward to is the Dove opener on September 1. That really means hunting season is here.

Looking Forward? You bet.

This will be my first hunting trip. I am going with a great bunch of friends to show me the way. We drew deer tags in Craig Colorado in Nov. Bought all the clothes I needed and a new pair of boots. I've increased my workouts to get into better shape and and getting in lots of range time. Are we there yet?

Ahh the brotherhood of hunters

So good to read that I'm not the only one getting excited. August 1st hits and my mind goes into high gear, usually followed by my boots. This will be our 2nd year on our lease, and this year we are behind a bit because we are still finishing building our bunk house. Its cozy for sure. 12x20 with 3 sets of bunk beds. We put a 12 by 7 porch on it yesterday.

This week we'll begin the scouting process and begin to hang stands. We draw for doe tags next week. The bow is getting re-strung and I am continuing to shoot the 7mm08 on a regular basis. October 13th can't get here soon enough.

Oh yeah, also putting in for vacation time, and teaching the kids to look for sign. They are not old enough to pull the trigger on an animal but we are having fun with the .22. Even more than deer, I think I am excited about the fall turkey season. This spring my 7 year old hunted with me, spotted a Jake and we were finally successful after 5 years of trying. I shot my first jake with my son Jake. Now it's my daughter Emily's turn, we are praying for the same success.

I am taking basically 2 days of archery elk week off to hunt to bring the kids with me. I have 3 boys, so have to split them up - oldest (11) comes for an evening hunt, night in camp, morning hunt - then to grandma's house and I swap him for the 2 younger guys (6 and 5). They get the same routine. Probably not much "hard core" hunting with the guys, but more to expose them to camp and the hunt. It would be great if someone gets an elk while they are there, but we will take it as it comes.

Man, I want an elk this year sooooooo bad.

Just firmed up the plans with my hunting buddies. Instead of a week of bird hunting along the Snake River this year, we will be packing up the gear and heading to California for a week of pig hunting/quail hunting. Revisit some of my old stomping grounds and score some wild pig for the freezer!

Scorch - Keep us posted on your trip! My buddy and I drove all the way to Texas for a disappointing hog trip. Hopefully, we will be smarted about Cali hogs by next time.

Our hunting licenses went on sale today and I'm ready. I got my muzzle loader tag, reg season tag and a dmp so I can take 3 deer this year. Last year was only 2 deer. I couldn't get a dmp for the area I hunt last year, it was closed. I did get the fall turkey tags and small game license so I can chase the coyotes when I get bored after deer season. I think tomorrow I will check the scope on my contender and get it ready for Bear season in a few weeks.

I've got quite a wait, but I'm excited. Come November I'll be done mowing, the yard will be raked and put to bed for the season, and I can focus on the woods. Plus Maine just added a fall turkey season.

I'm scouting now, sign everywhere in the woods behind the house.

TX licenses go on sale TOMORROW

and Springmom and I will be getting ours, you betcha! :D

SuperCombo plus public lands hunting permit. :D

Of course, I did not get drawn for the Wyoming elk tag this year. :barf:
