I just finished it this week, all 800+ pages. I'm curious to know what someone else thinks of it?

Yep, hard to put down once you start, isn't it? :)
Go, Henry Bowman!

What a great book. A blueprint for the future. Hopefully.

"As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression.
In both instances there is a twilight when everything remains
seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all
must be most aware of change in the air - however slight -
lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness."
--Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas

An incredible history of where our "gun culture" comes from, and the lengths to which the feds will go to destroy it. Lend it out to your friends.

Jarhead out.

I read Unintended Consequences 2 times and a book that is just as good, Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse 2 times.

I have two copies, the autographed copy stays at home, the second one gets lent out. Sometimes it is difficult to get the lent out one back.

Suggestion: Take the dust jacket off the book and donate a copy or 2 to your local library.

Have you ever heard of droplifting? Some musicians who can't get their stuff distributed through normal means have taken to leaving CD's in record stores. It should work with books as well - although it'd be easier if the book wasn't quite so big!

The true value in UC, and what Ross was trying to accomplish, is to stir up pro-freedom folk to fight the BS via "peaceful channels" so that the "Bowman option" is never needed.

There's another book y'all need to read that's about the OTHER major tool of freedom that the Feds absolutely hate and would ban if they could: "Cryptonomicon" by Neal Stephenson. It does for encryption what Ross did for guns.

Back to UC: in my case, it drove me to file two lawsuits against my local cops over abusive CCW practices. The first was mostly a bust but it was good experience and at least got us the application forms. Suit #2 in Fed court is FAR more potent, see also: http://www.ninehundred.com/~equalccw/pleadag.html

I just ordered the book from B&N (couldn't fine it anywhere else). Should get it early next week.

Probably read it straight through, if these comments are any indication!

Lots of luck with B&N, Bob. I ordered it from them to be dropshipped to my home and two months later, after hearing "It's at the warehouse, I don't know why it hasn't been shipped yet." every four days, I bought it at a gunshop in Houston. And I HATE going down to Houston.! Hope you have better luck.

I think most of the regulars here have read it and commented at length Myself likewise. My copy is out on loan at the moment, and I expect to re-lend it as soon as I get it back!I will probably buy another copy at this weekend's Del Mar, Ka. gun show so that I will be able to re-read it a third time ( total, that is).

paranoia is a GREAT thing to have when THEY really, really are out to get You!

I got my copy from www.loompanics.com, had it in stock, received it in 8 days from date of purchase.

I picked my copy up at a gun show, cash; I always buy contraversial titles that way, since I found out book companies keep lists of who buys what, which they supply to the government on demand. NEVER buy a Paladin Press title from Paladin Press. NEVER. Get it at the show, and pay with pictures of dead Presidents!

Well, first let me say that I know John a little, and his publisher, Greg, a bit more... I was in Greg's place buying a holster a few years ago (he was also distributing for a holster company) when I noticed that the place was stacked with tons of boxes of books. He put one in my hands, and I told him that I wasn't interested in some new version of the Turner Diaries crap that seems to turn up so often around the fringes... He explained that it wasn't anything like that, and suggested I read a little... Well, dang, but I ended up walking out with a copy...

The best place to buy the book is via the ads that were running in SGN a year or so ago, but failing that, Amazon.com recognizes it as one of its better selling titles. IIRC, if you buy it from Amazon, the order is forwarded directly to Greg's place for shipping.

I was also addicted to reading the book last winter. It only took me about 6 days. The is extremely intersting and keeps your attention throughout. My only complaint is that there is too much X-rated content in it. It just takes away from the book. Some may enjoy it but It keeps me from wanting to lend it out to anyone. If that kind of stuff doesn't bother you... then its about as good a book as a shooter can come across.

I would sell it here but I am too lazy to go out to the local UPS drop-off. Oh well maybe I'll sell it at a gun show.

Great book... except for about 30 pages of crap.
