Anybody like shooting .357 Magnums?

ooooooooooh yea.

BOOM.

I sure enjoy the .357 Mag. Currently own 2 OM Blackhawks in .357 (4 5/8" & 6 1/2"), a Colt Python and a S&W 581. I used to own any number of other .357's, been trying to "try them all". To complement the ones I shoot I also have a 24" Marlin M1894 in .357 Mag (one of the Cowboy Models with the straight grip checkered walnut stock and ballard rifling). My RCBS Pro2000 was bought specifically to load .357 in quantity and that is all it does. I use 11.5 grains of Alliant 2400, a CCI500, any brand of good brass, all under a .358 sized, 158 grain lead RNFP in all of my guns and enjoy it immensely. Can't ever have enough .357 Mags! I used to have a second-hand .357 magnum, but I traded it after realizing some of the nasty things the previous owner had done to it. :(

But unable to continue my existence without a proper magnum handgun, I found an as-new S&W 586 revolver, and my life will once again be complete. :)

.357 is absolutely my favorite cartridge; when the young guys are pulling out their compensatory Desert Eagles (no offense to DE owners :p) to out-shout my poor CZ-75 9mm and even my P7M8 to shame, nothing screams "class" like a deep blue .357 revolver that can put everything into a ragged hole at 25 meters.

Long live the .357! :D

My Magnificent Seven

Smith and Wesson Model 686-1 with 2.5" barrel and S&W factory Coco Bolo wood grips
Smith and Wesson (Lew Horton Model limited to 300) Model 66-5 with 3" barrel
Smith and Wesson Model 66 with 4" barrel (this was my 1st and only handgun for 15 years)
Smith and Wesson Model 686-1 with 4" barrel
Smith and Wesson Model 19-6 with 6" barrel
Colt King Cobra -- 6" barrel -- stainless with ventilated rib (has a Python barrel!!)
Colt Python -- 6" barrel -- blue

Have S&W 586 4" . Warm up shootin' .38's put in the .357's to make me smile.:D :D :D . So far mine likes Win. silvertips the best.
Hopefully going to start reloading after the first of the year.

.357 is probably my favorite all round caliber. Have 3; 4in. Colt Trooper Mark III, 4 in. S & W Model 28, and 2 1/2 in. 686. Wouldn't part with any of them.

.357 mag

At first I didn't enjoy shooting .357 mag ammo out of my Ruger SP 101. I mainly shot .38 spl with the occasional box of .357 mag to make things interesting. Then I put on some Hogue grips and now .357 mag is much more fun to shoot. The grip is longer so it fits my large hands better and it has finger grooves, so it feels like a glove when shooting. It's alot easier to control now and my accuracy with both .357 mag and .38 spl have improved greatly.

For such a small weapon like the SP 101, .357 mag is a huge punch and it usually gets me a few looks from other shooters at the local range to see what is making all that noise> :D  ;)

686, 4 inch
Great Revolver! Love to shoot those .357 158 gr!
Outdoor range is starting to get snowed-in & it was 12 degrees again this a.m. May have to go indoors with 38 Special now.

My advice: get yourself a S&W 686 in either 2.5 inch, 4 inch or 6 inch barrel length. You will not regret your purchase. Great fun on the range, 686 can handle any load!

Try a 357 Maximum. :D

Hard to find a concealable holster for it though.;)

Seriously, I didn't like the .357 much at first, but as I've learded to shoot better (and more) revolvers don't kick that much, and even running 100 rounds through my D-Frame Colt .357 was no big deal.

It's really about selecting the right grips and practicing.

686

Reefe:
There is only one S&W that looks better than the 686 4 or 6 inch and that is the 629 6.5 inch Classic or Classic DX. I own several Models in each caliber and consider myself a lucky man

Ummmm....

Ummmm....

well, I....uhh....don't own one.

But I have in the past:) And I do of course own a .38 Super & 10mm 1911's, which aren't too different from a .357. Nice cartridge, even though it's not loaded as hot as it used to be 30 years ago. I of course, can fix that problem:D

I always wear earplugs under a headset at the range, so the muzzle blast really isn't a problem for me.

I know where there is a pre-war Smith .357 calling my name, along with a very modern PC 627. Ay, ay, ay, choices, choices.:)

I use to shoot a lot of .357 magnum's, but as I grow
older and wiser my nerves won't take the heat! :D
The 70's era 6" barrel Colt Python rocked and' rolled
with some HOT handload's. Later, I found out
that the N-framed Smith & Wesson's would hold up
better under these condition's!:)

I enjoy shooting .357s out of my S&W Models 28 and 19. I can only detect a slight difference in recoil b/w the two (both have 4" barrels), and don't believe the recoil is bad at all.

The only problem with shooting .357s is the cost. Therefore, I shoot more .38s. I would handload, but I have too many other hobbies, so I don't have the time. Any good sources for decent, inexensive 357 ammo?
