Anybody like shooting .357 Magnums?

I'm not talking about just out of snubbies, but like 4" S & W model 19's or such.

I imagine the stout recoil would make it fun to shoot at the range - am I right?

I've only got three. A 2.5" 686, a PC-13, and the Mateba.

"Recoil makes it fun"? Then you need to find yourself a 3" .44 Magnum N-frame. :D

I have (2) .357 Mag revolvers - an SP101 Ruger snub nose & a 6" 686 S&W.

The recoil is a little snappy on the snub nose, but the 6" L frame is a pussy cat - with a nice set of rosewood grips, I can shoot it all day long 1 handed with factory loads.

That 6" S&W is also the nicest shooting handgun I have - smooth; light action, accurate, & comfortable.

Yep - I like the .357! :)

I've been seeing some nice Smith and Wesson model 19's etc on Gunsamerica for around $300 or so.

Sounds like I might have to pick one up!
:)

I'm open to recommendations for a good full-size .357 Mag revolver, although I'm partial to Smiths. I don't have any revolvers in my collection except for a Ruger Single Six.

hmm

I prefer .45ACP and .45LC out of revolvers, but shooting .357 in my M28 is fine.

I find the magnums whippy while the .45's just feel stout.
:D

EXHILARATING

Very blasty. I like it. In a handgun,I only get that feeling from my two revolvers, a two inch 649 in .357/38 and a four inch "Mountain Revolver" 629 in .44 mag.

As a range gun, I do not enjoy shooting .357 magnum loads through a revolver. There is too much uncomfortable recoil. Sure, I love the loud bang and muzzle flash of a .357 magnum but would prefer practicing with .38 special +P ammo. Of course, there isn't a problem with .357 loads if they are cowboy loads.

3 .357's here. Love them, it makes more sense when you reload as I've got loads for IDPA (about .38spcl power) and 'crazy horse' loads that really put the boom in the .357..

Shooting the low power loads is a blast, this weekend I was putting 6 rds COM on an IDPA target at 21ft in slightly under 5 seconds..those loads make it easy ;-)

Well lemme see here...

Yep, I'm gonna have to say yes. I enjoy .357 magnum. Actually the .357 and the .45 are far and away my favorite pistol calibers and my collection shows this.

.357 is just so damn versatile, not to mention the fact that in a self defense situation history shows it to get the job down.

I love my .357s and with the ability to run .38 it is like having two guns in one which is an aspect I personally love.

I have owned more centerfire handguns in 357 Mag than any other caliber. K-Frame 19 and 66 , Ruger GP100 , four 686's ,my TC Contender and a couple of Blackhawks. Yeah I like the 357! After borrowing a friend's lever action Marlin in 357 I now want one also! The 357 can also be very accurate. At the time I shot this 6 shot and 12 shot benchrest groups the gun wore a 4X Redfield.

Try this analogy......

Shooting a .357, next to practically any other caliber, is like trying to compare instant coffee to a double shot of Cuban espresso!

I think the .357 mag is just about the most versatile, can't-do-without, life-saver handgun anyone can own.

If you can only have one, the .357 is the one.

Shooting one? If you like speed, power, and intense physical feelings, the .357 is for you. There is nothing quite that can compare to the noise, recoil, and muzzle flash of a high-pressure .357 mag round.

My 4inch Model 27 feels like a relative pussycat compared to my 4inch 44Mag shooting 180grn UMC.

I'll never forget the time I loaded up some old 38/44 loads though with 158grain bullets and some hefty charges of 2400. Was shooting at the indoor range and the poor guy next to me stopped to ask whether or not it was a 44Mag. Was getting some pretty nice groups at the back of the range too with my Outdoorsman.

I have yet to start to play with my model 27 or handload any 357Mag for it. Would kinda like to see what the old timer loads are like if I could duplicate them, like the BlueDot loads that Alliant shows for 125 and 110grain bullets.

Short story long, yeah I can endure shooting 357Mag and even enjoy it.

S&W mod 13-3 3", 65-1 4", 66-naught 4"
Taurus tracker 6"

I don't like to shoot 357 I love to shoot 357's
I really like to pump out some 158 gr swc over 6 gr 231. Nice load but people look.

I carry my 13 most of the time, with some time spent with the 65.

I would like to get a 586-2 in 3" rb or 4" rb.

Have 3 357s, 5 44Mags, and 1 45LC and I'm not
really crazy about snappy recoil per se, but focus more on performance criteria of the load and gun selected. My most recent was a 357 60LS.
