Any Thoughts On Carrying a 357 SIG For CCW?

CorBon, MagSafe....

FWIW:
To my limited knowledge, Corbon's R&D dept uses a 6" barrel GP100 revolver to test .357magnum ammunition.
I like the fact that Magsafe, www.magsafeonline.com lists the vel/KE level & the firearm used to test/T&E.
That helps a gun owner make a more informed choice, IMO.

Calibre of questions

After a few opinions, I believe that truly uninformed and/or interested parties should read up on the pertinent aspects on their question(s) regarding the relative values of popular ammunition .
I understand that most handgun assassins use a .22 load; it would be one more caliber to stir in the mix...., but, REALLY ! ;)

I carry a G31. My practice loads are a 125gr Montana Gold JHP on top of 7.8 grs of BE-86 at 1.140" AOL. They chrono at 1,420fps. My DoubleTap carry loads make 1,600fps. No 9mm +P+ on the planet can do that, because I have chrono'd WIN SXT 127s +P+ from my G17 at about 1,280fps. It's just simple math, case volume of the .357SIG is greater than a 9x19mm. It's a nasty high recoil round, but it's the best for shooting thru vehicles. Just for reference, I have chrono'd 180 gr Black Talon .357RemMag from my S&W640-1 at just over 1,000fps. But it only holds 5 caps versus the G31 at 15+1...

I have a G33 and carry it some. 357SIG seems to be a mystery round and what is it capable of? Some LEO carry it, some special agencies carry it. Seems to me it a necked down 40 so why not just carry 40 or a hot 9?

A zombie thread, resurrected by a first post, scolding other people for their inferior knowledge. A hat trick!

Thank you, moderators, for your saintly patience.

Some day I am going to make a graph. Its going to be a fairly big chart. Over on the left are going to be a bunch of "normal carry" handgun rounds from .380 (roughly 200lbs of energy) to hot 10MM (roughly 700lbs of energy). Its going to look really really impressive. Look how big and bad the 10MM is in comparison (for the record my favorite auto round is 10MM). On the far right I am going to have the 458 LOTT (coming close to 6,000lbs of energy). Somewhere clustered around the center are going to be "normal" long guns (the 30-06 is just under 3,000lbs, the 12 gauge is around 3100lbs).

What is my point going to be? There is going to be a big grouping of firearms towards the left. .380, 9MM, .40, .357 SIG, .45, 357 MAG, 10MM etc that, in the grand scheme of things, are far more similar to each other than different. I like the .357 SIG round (ok who am I fooling - I enjoy almost all handgun rounds). Don't worry too much about exactly what is in the pipe. Most handguns, with reasonable bullet selection, are more similar to each other than different.

Its fun to be shooting with people and have them look over with a "what was that" look. I just grin.

I recently bought a G32 .357 sig to use for my ccw? Just want to know what yall think.

What do I think?

"That's nice."

(.357 Sig is, to me, what .40 is to a lot of Internet gun enthusiast types. I've never seen the point to it.)

I know the 357 sig round is a hot and nasty round but how much should I worry about over penetration???

I've got no opinion worth repeating.

and what about knock down power?

Kinetic energy is something that can be measured. Quantified. "Knock down power!", not so much.
