I could not help but purchase to Turk Model 1903 refurbished to Model 1938 that has a lovely fiddle back figured stock from fore tip to butt. The rifle looked decent and I didn't have one of these yet. I have been looking at and rejecting local Turk Mausers for a long time, looking for some thing special, either in conditon, all matching or a very nice
Turkish walnut stock.
When I broke it down for cleaning this afternoon, the insides were full of dirt, not cosmoline, as I expected. It was like the whole inside had gotten an incredible amount of dust in it over the years and nobody had ever taken the action out of the stock for cleaning. But it has cleaned up very nicely with no major faults that I can see.
I'll spend the next month refinishimg the stock very, very carefully and slowly. I want it to really turn out nice, as it makes this rifle special among its kind.
